I’ve had mine well over a year now. It sounds amazing I love the vibes. I use it for sound healings and I’ve recorded riffs for my music productions. It adds a great ambience to any music.

This sounds awesome. It has a nice ring and long sustain. I really haven't figured out how I am going to use it, but thought it would be nice to have in my tool kit of musical instruments. It should be noted that it is available in other keys and I wish that information was readily available. It would also be nice to know that the Wave instruments are not made by MusicMakers.

This sounds awesome and I have to assume it goes well with my Reverie Harp. I don't think it quite matches the application which I envisioned. The notes don't all blend as nicely as the Reverie Harp; the "off" notes are more noticeable. I think playing it takes the same precision (for me) as playing a diatonic version. However, for the music therapy application this probably isn't an issue. I think it is a wonderful instrument and the pentatonic scale is useful for the children I work with, but if I were to purchase it again I would get the diatonic or chromatic model. Speaking of which, I didn't realize that these options were available and I with that I had known about them.

The strings arrived in good condition as expected. Putting them in could be a challenge because of where they are on the Harp soundboard. I’m sure everything will work out fine. I know if I need help I can call and you will be there to help me.

Bought this for a volunteer gig, where I was not sure of how much floor space would be available. The stand looks gorgeous, sets the music at a perfect and predictable distance, no worries about stand being bumped or tripped over. It held my music, but wouldn't hold a heavy binder. I got my Jolie because I needed a light weight harp to travel with. My other harp (Dusty Strings) is beautiful but too heavy to carry up and down my many stairs in my home. The Jolie has a lovely sound and is beautiful. Perfect to take to lessons and on local trips.

It has a very simple structure and was easy to assemble. It was fun to customize by painting the rosette with gold and drawing a gold border around the rim. And it sounded good.

I bought the Camac levers intending to install them myself. Musicmakers was very helpful, but I decided it was too scary to do myself and I brought my harp to them. I have a Jolie Hybrid Harp and purchased the beautiful Harp Desk to keep the music at a distance that works for me. Everyone comments on the beauty of this accessory. What doesn't work for me is I cannot place my binder on the Harp Desk. Also, I tried to attach a battery-operated light to it and it did not work.

My replacement L-handle tuning wrench is the most recent in a long line of purchases from MusicMakers. It fits the hognose psaltery I made for a friend, and the Voyageur harp I made for myself. We play together, happily in tune. If either of us loses our "harp key" we know where to get another that fits, has heft, and lasts forever.

I bought this kit 3 months back. The package came with clear instructions on how to stain and finish the wood and then assemble it. The instructions were easy to follow and the finished harp wheel works well to move around my Lyon & Healy prelude harp.

We misplaced the tuner for a bowed psaltery and ordered this one as a replacement. It arrived very quickly and is even better than our original, whose handle had partially broken off. I purchased the diy Jolie harp kit and absolutely loved completing the projects. So of course needed to add levers next. This kit made it very easy to install the levers with a template and then regulate them. A truly excellent company, excellent products and great customer service. Acquired a small lap harp from Dublin, and the tuning wrench that came with it didn’t work at all. This is the best tool for harp pins..threaded or not. Very smooth to use, easy grip, good price and super fast shipping

Very well made bag. Velcro base removes completely but seems strong enough to hold the harp in place. 2 zipper pouches for music / tools / strings. One long zipper up the strap handle side to allow bag to easily fit around the top of the harp. Well padded for protection. Includes straps for horizontal carry. Shoulder strap included in one of the pouches. There is also a pull strap on top for easy movement with the harp wheels. Wishing the bag was not so pricey, but you get what you pay for and this is well made.

Excellent customer service: My book arrived with water damage. I called,and was told a new one would be shipped. I received my new copy within a few days! The book is a great resource- clear directions and photos, plus a nice collection of Finnish folk songs.

I've built several kits from Musicmakers and all have been great. I recently built the Jolie and am very impressed with it. The kit is very well made with great instructions. It was a breeze to assemble. It is all finished and ready for the Camac sharping lever (on order). The finished harp is remarkably light weight with a HUGE full sound. The proportions are perfect and size is just right. I may build a very low table/stand for it after I have played it for a while. FIVE STARS!

I purchased these a while back and all was fine until I tried tightening one of the strings, I didn't have the right scale and wound up over tightening it and it broke. However when I went to reorder a new string I couldn't order just one, but was offered one for free and that included shipping. I am very pleased with musicmakers customer support and their staff. I asked for this as a Christmas gift and am loving it. I love the beauty of it and how it’s so much more functional than a traditional floor stand. Before, when I performed, I’d have a mic stand for the harp, a mic stand for me, and a music stand and I felt too boxed in. This definitely helps!

They provide excellent service and respond reasonably quickly to emails on weekdays. Kit designs are well thought out with excellent directions. Quality wood is used. The as-received surface of the wood is finish ready for 120 grit sandpaper which is great. The hardware is sound, quality materials. The wood is premium quality. shocked at how good the wheels are on the harp wheels kit are. On most things, the wheels are too small and low quality. These are solid and have a large diameter that should last for decades. Take in-stock with a grain of salt. They provide an estimate of when it will ship after an order is placed, but the website's in-stock label is incorrect. Packing of the parts I received was inadequate in my opinion. The first shipment had damage due to inadequate packing. My next, larger shipment was minimally packed but fortunately handled better by the shipper. They were quick to offer a replacement for the damaged parts.

I have done a few kits from MusicMakers. This was a great kit. Entry level for the kit and also foran instrument. I a great way to get stated. We have built a few and are making more. Only problem we've had is one string is a little buzzy. Like any instrument they need tweeking. Al in al a great kit.

We purchased a Voyageur cherry kit when they Musicmakers decided to discontinue this model. I had had my eye on this particular harp for a while, and the sale pushed me to make the purchase. The instructions were good, but I would not recommend this to a novice woodworker. My husband, luckily for me, had the skills and tools to get it done. It was a fun project to work on together. The finished harp is beautiful! The most challenging part was the lever installation. I chose Loveland levers, and Musicmakers did send a Loveland template for this harp - but it was WAY off on the placement for most of the levers. The lever installation was frustrating! And I cannot say they are perfectly positioned, but good enough for my level of playing (I am NOT a professional). The sound is beautiful, except for a bit of a thunky sound for one or two of the strings, which I wish I could figure out how to fix. Harpkit.com was quick to respond to questions, which I was thankful for. The response for my questions regarding the lever placement & installation were not as helpful as they could have been. Notes to self - if I ever do another harp build, I will remember to - build the harp, install the strings, PLAY PLAY PLAY and TUNE TUNE TUNE for many weeks before installing the levers. The levers are hard enough to install w/out worrying about the strings and harp body constantly adjusting to their new existence as a Voyageur harp.

I like the bag, and quality seems pretty decent. Can't wait to take my harp outside :)

This kit UKE is made up of very nice components and excellent, easy to follow instructions. Not the 1st musical instrument kit I have built but probably the best so far. It is a good idea to have at least some woodworking knowledge and experience to do best job but this is not absolutely necessary. It is probably important to read and understand the entire instructions book several times before beginning the build. And important to assemble the tools needed for each step before starting that step. Only issues I see are to have a large enough stable and flat work space and to be prepared to do some slight careful trimming (via 150-220 grit sand paper) to make the rib ends fit tightly onto the corner blocks. The rib ends on my kit were not cut fully square so the fit needed to be adjusted. No big deal just requires care and patience plus multiple trial fits and minor sanding to fully square up the rib ends. I will use a laminate trim router to remove excess top and back overhang wood but you could use a coping saw and a file and then sand paper instead. Most important is to understand the instructions and take your time, allow the glued parts to fully dry/cure before removing any clamps and moving to next steps. Patience and careful fitting is your friend, impatience and hurry will likely cause trouble that might not be fixable. I think you can be rewarded with a really nice looking and good playing instrument. I have made 3 dulcimers and a banjo from kits and all turned out nice but this UKE will I think be the nicest.

I love this harp! I went all out and ordered the vivid color: Autumn Red. It is beautiful and the tone of the harp is ethereal. The bass is full, the middle has lovely warmth, and the top has just the right amount of brightness. Kudos to all of the people at Musicmakers for building this special harp for me. Everyone there is so helpful. A special thanks to Jacob for being so patient and working with me to get the color just as I requested. Musicmakers are the best!

The rest of the kit was great, but I had to buy two replacement wrenches because they kept breaking. If you're gonna get this, I recommend buying two extra wrenches too

I have owned this music stand for over 25 years, and am replacing this part. This stand puts the music in the perfect place to read music- no need to turn your head, no trying to get a music stand close,but not too close or you'll ding your harp,and it's beautiful.

After looking at the Music Makers Sonnet harp for some time, I had the fortune to be visiting Minnesota, and jumped on the opportunity to try out the Sonnet Lap harp in person. I loved it instantly: the rich sound that is such a surprise considering its size, the clever ergonomics that allow me to play comfortably on the sofa and cross-legged on the floor, and the beautiful wood and craftsmanship. Beautiful harp desk and very stable/sturdy on the harp. Very easy to place on the harp and remove from the harp without any scratches to the harp. While using the harp desk, I noticed that I don't have to turn my head as much while playing with this harp desk because it is closer to the harp than music stand.

Fast service, good quality strings, great price. It’s hard to find inexpensive harp strings for my Dusty Strings 36-string harp, and the website was very helpful on helping me figure out which specific strings I needed.

Amazingly, I was drawn to the bowed psaltery by memories of the very same as the previous reviewer, a Trapezoid concert decades ago with member Lorraine Duisit playing bowed psaltery as they entered (playing "Now is the Cool of the Day" I think.) Trapezoid being my only reference for sound, I can say I'm 100% pleased with this instrument for resonant tone and beautiful design. It arrived in perfect shape, assembled, with tuning almost perfect. It's a fun instrument to just pick up and play anytime. I'm keeping this site in mind for future purchases.

I purchased a old musicmaker harp (gothis kit built some where in the early 90's). Its a great light weight harp, but has some structural issues. This kit has helped me relieve the buzzing of the strings on the levers.

This also came with a PDF booklet of building instructions, which I wasn't expecting. So that was nice, and I shall get some pointers from it. I printed the plan on my home printer and taped all of the pieces together. It's a bit tedious and not perfectly precise by the time you get to the last row of sheets, but definitely close enough for good templates and measurements. I plan to build an inside mold and will try to make some of the suggested upgrades mentioned on the plan. I wish there had been a few more measurement lines dotted in on the plan, for example top/back length I couldn't find. Nothing I can't measure myself. This seems like a good instrument with lots of options and potential.

The stand is a marvelous piece of wood engineering. The wood is first rate and I finished it with tung oil. It is beautiful. The company was very helpful with a problem I had with a part and replaced it quickly. Great company and product.

Have loved my Jolie Hybrid for 5 years. Great sound, beautiful, lightweight, good range. And then I saw the purple vivid color harps in person at Somerset. And had to have a purple Jolie Hybrid and now I do. Beautiful resonant tone. And gorgeous. Great service from Musicmakers.

Excellent plans, easy to follow, though I'd rather the measurements were in metric, not imperial dimensions. But quick enough to convert. I built from timber left over from other projects and scrap plastic in about ten days.

I'm delighted with my new Reverie Harp. I first learned about it from a friend who has one. I was immediately drawn to it and when she handed it to me to play I did not want to put it down! The sound is delicately beautiful and the Harp itself is a work of art. The vibrations you can feel while holding and playing it are powerful and healing . I can't wait to begin using it in my sound healing practice in addition to having fun with it myself. The harp comes with a lovely padded gig bag and a tuning wrench as well. Although I've never tuned a stringed instrument, I was able to tune with a little patience and practice. I really like my Sonnet lap harp. It beautiful, holds a tune nicely, has a nice big sound, and is super easy to travel with.

I had 2 strings snap and these arrived just in time. Any other brand of strings just won’t do. :)

I'm installing these on the backside of the harp to prevent damage to the hole in the wood. These are uniformly smooth and fill the existing holes. Also had to fix some of the eyes on the front (playing) side of the harp due to the wood hole ovalizing. I went with the simple method of just epoxying the eyelet into the hole. Be sure to repeatedly clear the hole of epoxy.

String popped right after I placed the order. MusicMakers quickly changed the order for me to speed up the shipping. I got the replacement string quickly.

I’m not a native English speaker. So I cannot explain how good it is. 29 strings. Big soundbox and can play on the lap. Most 29 strings harp need to install legs or kneeling to play. most 26 strings harp best playing situations is standing and using strap. I really like the original color of cherry wood and what it sounds. I love sonnet so much that I already order my second sonnet harp after my first sonnet arrived. Because I want a vivid color one to feel how magical maple wood sonnet harp sounds.

Excellent kit! I really enjoyed building this harp. I was a bit apprehensive prior to purchasing the kit, fearing I would lack the ability or the tools. However, the instructions were very good. I am pleased with the result. Staff were helpful, even sending me a new brass driver when I stripped out the first one. A video would have been helpful to supplement the written instructions.

I am so happy with this harp! It fits very comfortably on my lap (I am 5’9”), looks beautiful and interesting, and somehow has both a bright and rich sound. My harping buddy admired it so much, she ordered one, too! (She is several inches shorter than I am, but still said she could play it comfortably.) It really sounds like a big harp. And with 29 strings (only lacking the lowest five strings my Ogden has), I can play most songs without adjusting the octaves. I thought the strap might get uncomfortable if worn long, so I ordered a cushioned seatbelt cover to pad it. I also had the pickup installed, which is exciting for when I perform. Amazon had a laptop stand that someone at MusicMakers recommended, and it rests perfectly on that when not being played. I highly recommend this lovely harp.

Beautiful sounds come from this lovingly handcrafted lyre! I chose the nylon strings and was worried they might be a bit dull on a small instrument, but the resonance is magical and you feel the vibrations against your body. The accompanying stand makes it so easy to hold and balance. I also enjoy playing it on a table zither style. Highly recommend!

Love this instrument, such a beautiful sound. I modified this when I built it by placing three piezo pickups under the brass bridge on the inside soundboard and a quarter inch plug on the side. To be able to fill a room with the sound of this instrument is incredible. I use it during sound bathes and group meditations.

This gig bag is perfect to keep my mountain dulcimer safe and snug. Robust outer shell and super soft padded lining. I love the colour combo too. I had struggled to find a case long enough to accommodate the ornate curved top of the dulcimer I had bought on a whim from a local folk music shop. I am the delighted owner of two Jolies. One lives at church, and has to be moved once or twice weekly. The harp wheels slide perfectly into my case, and make transport seamless! Everyone who has seen them is amazed by their ingenious design.

I ordered a new set of strings for my Reverie Harp. I had also managed to lose one of the little brass eyelets. I asked if I could purchase a replacement eyelet, and Matt was nice enough to just include a couple in with the strings. The quick service was also very much appreciated.

Beautifully crafted instrument. I was looking for an instrument that I could relax with in the evening and this fits the bill! Steel strings produce a bright resonant sound. I found if I use Musician Glove the lyre has a mellow sound..best of both worlds! The lyre was packed exceedingly well and arrived ahead of schedule. I love MusicMakers instruments!

I downloaded these plans to aid in the repair/restoration of a vintage found mandolin. It was an immense help and I thank MusicMakers for making this information available at no charge. Bravo to you! To actually attempt the construction of a mandolin from these plans alone would be beyond my nerve and/or skill set. I would certainly recommend a kit with selected components and pre-cut pieces. I was lucky enough to purchase a vintage plucked Psaltery with 17 Strings from late 1970’s. I used the gauge recommendations for the Music Makers 15 String Plucked Psaltery to devise a custom set for my instrument. They both sound and look great! The instrument plays like new now. I may order more of the .014 to replace the strings of my old Lap Harp from childhood. 😊

I have had a reverie harp for several years and have loved using this in music therapy sessions. This year, I added a monochord, shruti box, and spirit flute. These have been so well received by my clients. And I have loved learning these new instruments! I'm hoping to add a lap harp in future years!

My lovely Reverie harp made the trip to Canada very quickly, and I could play it as soon as it was unpacked (mostly still in tune, with only a few very slight changes needed to bring it up to snuff.) My husband and I played with it for a few minutes, then tried some of the song sheets. Great fun. However, I wanted the Lullaby tuning so I quickly cut out the tuning template and made the few changes needed. Oh, wow! Now I have the basic C major chords to play on one half, and also the F/D minor on the other half of the harp. This gives me so many options for rich sounds. I consider myself a competent musician, but just strumming and picking at random is so liberating. My husband, who has no musical skills at all, noodled around for 15 minutes or so, then passed it to me. I strummed, I plucked, I did both together. When I finally paused, I looked over to see the man just rousing from a nap. "What did you stop for?" he asked. I looked at the clock and saw that nearly an hour and a half had gone by. The music from this beautiful instrument really has the power to transport you to a very peaceful place. I am so very glad I got this Reverie Harp. She joins my Sonnet lap harp as a prized posession. Thank you so much for these lovely, lovely instruments.

I received the string in the timely manner they promised. It is now on my harp and working fine. Staying tuned.

I have purchased strings from other sources and found the loop ends to weak and break easily. I have to assume that I purchased low tension strings for other types of instruments. These strings are capable of holding the tension of a hammered dulcimer without slippage. The loop ends are slightly larger than the hitch pin and fit snuggly over the pin, they have eight twists and three barrel wraps giving them the strength to remain firm without any slippage.

These look nice and fit nice and tight as they should in the holes drilled with the proper drill (a #13), I'm happy with them. I used these in a lyre project I built.

I am a repeat customer of Musicmakers having purchased a Voyageur Harp 15 years ago. I bought this monochord and a Reverie harp recently to go more in the direction of sound healing. Matt, as always, was very accommodating to my request and strung and tuned the harp to A, as I wanted a key that would be comfortable for me for chanting. I ended up tuning it down to F#, and it sounds wonderful in both keys. I also added a few Feeltone bridges (sanded the bottoms down a bit to fit) to the top strings to add a little harmony when I am playing alone. It is an exquisite instrument and everyone who hears it agrees!! You will be very happy with it.

Took about a week to finish this kit, not because it's difficult, but because I decided to stain and Varathane it. Two coats of stain and 3 coats of varathane with 400 grit sanding between each coat is a slow process, but we're ecstatic with the results. As to assembly, my only issue was with the little brake levers. I had to drill out the holes to 1/4" so the bolts would pass thru. The kit was for a Salvi Titan harp and the medium size kit fits just nicely.

I just want to thank you for such a wonderful instrument. I truly absolutely LOVE it!!! I am so grateful with how quickly you sent it to me. I love the color purple and this galaxy purple is awesome. What I love the most is the sound. It really can have a big voice if you want it to. Sometimes I need that. Also the quiet sound is so soothing. The instrument, ( which I named purplelicious, I name all my instruments ) is a delight to play with. Thank you for such wonderful quality. All my music buddies love it also.

Where do I begin? Pre-order conversations with Matt, ordering sequence, email notifications keeping me in the loop of progress then shipping - all were exceptional! One could base a customer service how-to on Matt and his team! Then, the delivery - again sending me tracking notices all the way to the door! And delivered in perfect condition. Unboxing was exciting. The Jolie harp was well protected inside the box. Everything was so nicely packaged and protected, so I just worked my way through the contents list and checked off my unpacking right next to their packing checks! The quality of workmanship is beautiful. I cannot wait to get started on prep and assembly!

I love these harp lights. They are so beautiful! I also purchased the AC adapter and the remote dimmer. So, I can easily plug them into a nearby outlet and adjust the brightness as needed. I can play in the dark if I want to! I chose the easiest installation method because I didn't want to risk damaging the harp with the other methods. The lights work beautifully. The adhesive is a little on the weak side. Over the past couple of months, the lights have started to separate from the neck of the harp in two spots. In a way, this is a good thing because it means that the adhesive is weak enough that I don't have to worry about the adhesive damaging the harp finish. In that sense, it's reassuring. So, if you're thinking about buying these lights and your only hesitation is concern over the adhesive damaging the finish, I'm here to reassure you. Go for it. Buy these lights. Your harp's finish will be fine. They are beautiful. And they will help you see the strings better.

I am SO glad I bought these. I recently had to move and I was concerned about how I was going to transport the harp (because they have to be moved carefully). I chose the recommended large size and they fit perfectly. These wheels are a real blessing! After the move, I ended up keeping them on because the room I keep the harp in is too small to use as a practice room but it's small enough that I can control the humidity. So anytime I need to play, I can wheel my harp out of the small room and into the living space. And when I'm done practicing, I can easily move the harp back into the humidity-controlled space. Good job Music Makers!

Musicmakers was very accommodating to my wishes (and very patient with me while I tried to make up my mind), making my Sonnet exactly the harp I wanted. I opted for the Tiger Bronze Vivid Color, strung A - A, with an upgraded soundboard veneer, and buttons with a strap. The only hiccup was that there was a delay receiving Camac levers from France, but other than that, the process moved along quite quickly. The padded case has handles, an outside zipper pocket, and shoulder strap. It is excellently made. The harps finish and wood grain are absolutely beautiful (although I would prefer the sound holes to feel smoother) and she sounds wonderful. The basic strap to attach to the harps buttons was not included with the harp, but once they were notified it was omitted from the original shipment, they promptly mailed it to me. I look forward to purchasing another harp from Musicmakers!

I bought this kit to learn clawhammer banjo. I've bought kits in the past and didn't expect this kit to be like it is. VERY HIGH QUALITY. Everything fits nicely. Very little sanding. I've been building guitars for the past 10 years or so and I have one suggestion about the fretboard. It does lap over the neck in places (as stated in the instructions) and is a bit smaller than the neck in others. I suggest you glue the fretboard on BEFORE you install the frets. With the fretboard glued on, you can work the fretboard down to match the neck, and the neck to match the fretboard. You can't do that with the frets already installed. (I guess you could, but it would be a nightmare.) Once the neck and fretboard are profiled, sanded and ready for the finish, THEN install the frets. I do the same thing on the guitars I make. Anyway, everything about this kit is high quality. Grover tuners too (my favorite). High quality truss rod too. If you are wanting a banjo kit, this is the one to get!

Quick and easy online purchase. They strung it up with nylon strings and got it shipped in a day. Well packed and arrived safe and sound. Workmanship and materials are good. Had to tweak the wrapping of the nylon strings to get the strings on the same plane. Not hard and of course the strings took awhile to settle in and stay in tune. After a few days all is well. Very happy with this and my wife even likes the sound it makes...

I first ordered the the blueprints which gave the impression that wood was included in the regency harp kit. Given that the COMPLETE hardware kit was the only other option available on the site it led me to believe that it came with the wood as well. I paid 648 for shipping and 93 for duty tax for just the strings and hardware. With the price and availability of wood I may as well have financed a fully built harp. For anyone saying I should have researched more when I went to the harp plans and kits. I selected the only 34 harp plan available then searched the site for the materials I would need. A review on another site said the wood that came with the kit was beautiful. And it is stated in the blueprints what comes with the kit. Again the this kit is the only one available for the regency harp. I am sure what did come is of fine quality but not really the point. My fault for not directly messaging the company to ask since the description says the only thing is doesn’t include is levers. Funny enough even in the kits that had wood that I found later the regency harp is not among them.

Like for many harpers, my 30 lb. lever harp, that was light enough to put in my car or carry to outside gigs when I bought it 18 years ago, now has become much heavier.. When I needed to find help to get my harp up a flight of steps, I decided it was time for a lighter harp. I've tried multiple carbon fiber harps, but the sound left me completely unsatisfied. Enter Musicmakers and the Jolie hybrid. I played one of the early Jolie hybrids at a harp conference many years ago. I was impressed then by the rich and complex sound and tone that comes from wood, and figured that it had only gotten better over the years. So I did what I swore I'd never do: buy a harp sight unseen and sound unheard. I am completely impressed with my new Jolie. First of all, it is beautiful! Matt advised that the quilted maple soundboard would make the tone warmer, and it does that, as well as add another level of gorgeousness to the harp. I love the sound. There's a rich underlay to the tone, and in the highest register, it is clear and bell-like. As the harp settles into itself, its voice just keeps getting richer. When I play at outdoor labyrinths, the harp is heard easily over the noise of traffic and sirens without any additional plucking effort. The string tension is easy on my hands and arthritic thumbs. I can easily reach all the bass strings. The Camac levers are a joy to use. The case is easy to use and gives excellent protection. There are straps in all the right places to make car loading easy. And then there's the weight. In its case, 14 lbs., on its own, 13lbs. Much less than a bag of birdseed. I can load it and move it easily, without needing my bulky and heavy harp cart. Musicmakers' customer service is exceptional. I received ongoing information about the status of my order, as well as what to expect when it was shipped. The level of care and the layers of protection for successful, damage-free shipping were amazing, and completely effective. Leg installation instructions were clear and easy to follow. I've had a couple of post-delivery questions that Matt quickly answered. I think this is a great harp from a great company that is filled with people who care about both the excellence of their instruments and their customers. The Jolie hybrid combines all the loveliness of a wood instrument with all the weight reduction of carbon fiber. I am so glad that I bought mine.

These are solid tuners. Wish they came with bushings and screws. If ordering for making cigar box guitars, the ordering guide should be reversed. I ordered three according to the guide and it was the opposite of what I needed.

I recently needed the small red & blue bands to put on the back side of the harp pins. I couldn't find them on the website but through an email Music Makers staff helped me and I was able to order them. I got them and they are great.

Delivered in a reasonable time frame and worked without issues on my ukelin.

The instructions for this kit are uncommonly well done. Very clear and easy to follow. The kit is well made and requires minimal sanding. I'm halfway done assembling the kit but I don't expect any problems. A moderately handy person should have no problems. You will need sandpaper, glue(see instructions), hammer, diagonal wire cutters(to clip nails). Some wood clamps are handy, but you could manage without them.

I purchased the assembled mountain banjo, fretted, with nylgut strings. It has a super solid build quality, easy playability, and that old-time sound you’re looking for in an instrument like this. Check out the sound samples. An instrument to pick up, sit back, relax, and enjoy!

I am the delighted owner of two Jolie harps- one for church, who lives there, and one at home. I love the tone and responsiveness of this harp! I have been playing for almost 2 years (45 years of oboe) and am learning that it has a huge range of dynamics and sound. I also love that is so light (20 lbs) and easy to transport. I use the harp wheels and they are great-everyone who sees them marvels at how well they are designed, and their excellence of function. This harp is just awesome, and perfect for me.

We have been retro-fitting all-metal Universals in our UK shop (Devon Harp Centre) for over 12 years, and they're sturdy and very reliable, and the one-size-fits-all is particularly useful. All-metal construction too ! Jerry's You Tube video is good, especially for beginners - he explains the installation procedures very well and in close-up detail.

My husband gave me the harp lights for Christmas, and I am delighted with them! Very easy to install, despite my harp not having a pre-made hole at the neck (no, I wasn't going to risk cutting one!) Instructions are very easy to follow, and you get everything you need (the velcro is critical to avoid "buzzing" when you play). While the lights are very useful, I generally have them on just because they are so beautiful.

Good selection of songs though I find some of the hymns obscure. A quick search online should yield a result that you can hear to get the melody. I like the indexing style - especially for alternate tunings; very helpful. Strumming techniques, tabbed chord charts and spiral bound to fold over and lay flat. Recommended!

The Strumbly is so refreshing compared to 6 strings! It's small and light enough to be played just about anywhere; nice body size creates a pleasant sound and the string spacing is familiar and comfortable. I find it intuitive - it's easy to pluck around and find the right notes. Clean and simple design throughout. Just a lot of fun!

Received my Reverie Harp kit last week. The clear instructions made assembly very easy. I had the box glued up and assembled within a few hours, but took four days to apply the finish - two coats of de-waxed shellac (sanding between each with 320 grit sandpaper), three coats of brushed-on lacquer (rubbing down with #0000 steel wool after the first and third coats), and five coats of spray lacquer. The finish pulls out the grain in the Cherry and creates a great shimmering effect in the grain of the Mahagony soundboard. Stringing is the hardest part of the project. Though I didn't need them, the extra strings are a plus. I've had it strung for a couple of days, and the strings are just starting to hold their tune. The wife loves it, and will most likely 'steal' it for her therapy sessions. Started with a Door Harp, then a 'Lil Lyre. Next up, an Old World Lyre and/or Lynda Lyre - working my way up to a full-sized harp.

Decades ago I was captivated by the sound of a bowed psaltery played by the American folk band, Trapezoid, as they entered the concert hall. I have never forgotten the haunting and ethereal sound. So when I saw the bowed psaltery on this website, it called to me until I ordered one. I'm so very glad I did. I've just finished making the Voyageur harp, and I'm absolutely delighted with it. It is beautiful, easy to play, and has a gorgeous, full, rich, well-balanced sound that would fill any venue. I'm 62 years old, a luthier, and a lifetime musician with many years of experience with woodworking. This is not a kit for a beginner woodworker, but if you have the experience, the tools, (and copious number and variety of clamps!) the kit goes together easily. Not including the levers, it took about 50 hours to complete, including the varnish. The kit was exceptionally well-packed. The instructions were clear and easy to follow. There is a series of YouTube videos that are indispensable but take care to follow the provided instruction book rather than the videos. There are discrepancies, and you need to follow the written instructions. Before you begin each new part of the project, take care to count the number of screws, eyelets, etc. as no extras are provided. Check the provided drill bits to make sure they are the correct size for the screws provided, etc. *** You will want to request an extra brass fitting for your hand drill for installing the tuning pins. It's a very difficult job, made harder by the fact that the soft brass fitting tends to split/break. This was my experience as well as that of several others in my online harp group who have made these harps. Installing the levers is a delicate, detailed, precision effort that takes far longer than it should due to the poor quality, ill-fitting paper template provided. This would be such an easy fix, but Musicmakers doesn't seem interested in correcting it. The screws provided are extremely soft and it's easy to wring the head off of one if it is over-tightened or spun too quickly with the drill. Again, the kit contains no extras. My work-around was to use a small socket wrench instead of the power drill. For these reasons, installing the levers took about 20 hours, including having to re-drill the screw holes several times (template problem) to ensure that they were perfectly positioned. I adore the finished instrument and have no doubt that I'll love it just as much in 10 years, but the kit did present some challenges.

Nice padded case. It got to me quicker than they predicted which I appreciated. Seems to fit well and has ample storage. Mine is black and gray.

Excellent kit. Everything promised was delivered. Clear instructions. Assembly instructions even include a few songs. I’ve built a psaltery, a ten stringed lyre, a five string box guitar, several ukuleles, and even a Nepalese Sarangi from scratch. This Psalmodikon is an excellent addition to my stringed instrument collection. I added a second notation stick with the usual musical notation to make it easier to find notes in the usual manner.

I purchased this gift for my wife on our 25-year anniversary of being together. We are professional musicians and met in music school. We are always on the lookout for new sounds to add to our repertoire. She opened the present today and spent the entire day playing it, and watching videos of other Kantele players, studying the history of the instrument. I started playing the harp a few months ago and decided I wanted to primarily teach myself. I have tried a couple of different books and even an online class from udemy. This series is by far the best resource I have found. It is a shame is not widely in print but of course Musicmakers have it!!! Highly recommend!

I absolutely love the resonance this harp provides. The sound is wonderful. The weight is not too heavy so I can move it myself, and the choice of colors is phenomenal. String tension is not too tight for someone with arthritic hands, but not low tension either. This makes the sound wonderful. I recently had a problem with 2 notes buzzing. I thought I resolved it once and it began again. I tried everything to fix it and then called Musicmakers and spoke with Cody. He gave me some great trouble shooting ideas, as well as the name of a harpist in Michigan I might try to call to take a look at it since I am so far away from Minnesota. He even sent out new adhesive for my transducer(????) and new string. They are so helpful here.

I was always worried that someone would trip on my hammered dulcimer scissor stand and I have been looking for a better option. My search led me to Music Makers and I decided to go with their kit. The stand is also available fully assembled. The kit is made of beautiful solid cherry and all pieces were well machined. It just took sanding the hard edges to a slight radius, gluing and screwing the cross braces on, drilling pilot holes helps, and some light assembly. Then you're ready to finish. The thing I love about cherry is that it will naturally darken over time into that classic dark red and rich color. This stand can be adjusted to play either standing or sitting height and the angle that the hammered dulcimer sits at is also adjustable. I like playing at an angle where I don't have to reach far. I play a Russell Cook Signature Edition and it's very sturdy on this stand. There are no splayed legs for passerbys to trip on. Buying and building this stand has been a great experience and it will be used ever day.

This is the easiest way to transport a harp. Simple to use, light weight, and you can play the harp with the wheels still attached, thanks to the simple braking system. I recently played an outdoor art fair, and the wheels smoothly moved my harp over uneven brick walkways and grassy areas. I have several harp carts and this one has replaced them all!

My husband and I had a great experience with building the Cheyenne harp. As a harp learner I put a lot of focus on learning how to play music the instrument. Building this harp gave me an opportunity to learn about how harps are constructed and also to acquire new skills such as regulating levers. My husband has some woodworking background but has never assembled a harp before. We really appreciate the staff at Musicmakers answering our questions along the way, making the process less daunting! We took the opportunity to customize the harp by making some small adjustments to the shape and dying it blue, which was fun! I am impressed by how comfortable the harp is, even for my young daughter, despite being pretty sizeable. Harp Wheels make transporting the harp easy. The Cheyenne is bassy and resonance while still having a sweet treble, and I love how well its sound can fill up a large room. We have a lot of wonderful memories building the harp; I am sure it will continue to create more memories for me and my family for years to come!

I ordered this harp kit from Azerbaijan, and it arrived safely. Recently we finished assembling it. Instruction guide and video that we found on musicmakers youtube channel helped a lot. It wasn't the easiest thing, but after finishing all the work and playing it my jaw dropped :D I didn't expect it to sound so beautiful, the sound is warm but not muddy, and it has amazing resonance! This is my first harp, and i needed it to be not expensive but good quality, and Jolie harp is above my expectations. I found the Musicmakers kit looking for a Banjo kit on the net, I am glad that I did. I live in Australia, this did not matter as Matt communicated promptly and made my purchase extremely easy, I am in the middle of putting the Banjo together and I am amazed at the quality and ease of assembly. The completeness of the kit and comprehensive instructions astound me. I have made a small change by installing fretboard side dots, but this is not a criticism but a personal choice. I am using a Tru-Oil finish and as I put it on the wood colours are really standing out, fantastic. Once again, well done Matt and thank you.

I ordered the assembled 5 string mountain banjo. I had been considering the purchase for over a year. I had hesitated because I was afraid the string spacing at the nut would be too narrow for my fingers. I'm used to wider nut widths: 1 3/8. I reached out to MusicMakers and talked with Matt. OMG. He's so good. He quickly assured me that he could increase the string spacing for my preferences because there was room. That worked out perfectly for my fingers. Thank you a ton, Matt. I have to say, the packaging was the most careful an precise I've ever see for a banjo. I have 8, so I know what crappy packaging can be. And the sound of this thing. I'm not sure what magic they do, but it rings with incredible sustain for a banjo with no metal tone ring. I took it apart and put it back together to get a feel for how that goes. Easy peasy. Nice that the mountain banjo has a truss rod. And adjusting the action was easy-just tighten or loosen on screw at the base of the neck. Thank you guys, especially Matt.

I was so pleased to see you now do an AC adaptor. I had real problems with the battery case before, but this has helped a lot. Obvs I need to be near a socket, but that's OK - still worth it.

My father built my harp from Music Makers back in the late 90's. When I moved out of state, I left my harp with my parents until recently. Since then, a few strings had broken. I was pricing out replacements from local music stores, and was getting a bit frustrated both with how few people could help, but how much it would cost to get repaired. On a whim, I came back to where he purchased it from and while the style is no longer in production, the hardware kit was. I was absolutely thrilled. The kit was shipped quickly and with great care and arrived in perfect timing. The kit came with all of the tools and info I needed to fix it and I'm thrilled that my harp is back in working order. Nothing more frustrating than a broken string! When I was stringing our new harp which we assembled from a kit, I ended up breaking one of the included strings. Luckily, I always buy a spare string set or I would have had to wait for a new string! Very nice strings, long enough to spare - just operator error on my part ;)

We assembled our beautiful Reverie Harp over a few days, taking our time and allowing the glue and rub on polyurethane to dry. The directions were very clear and we had no problems with the kit. The finished instrument sounds as lovely as it looks. We got the fleur-de-lis medallion just to change things up a bit. Nice to have options!

Great stuff! I live in the desert and over the years, my harp dried out and the pins loosened. This stuff really helped. No need to unstring or change the loose pins, Just put this stuff around the base of the pin, wipe off the excess and let it work. It did not damage the wood finish in any way. Thanks for a great product.

I recently became aware of musicmakers, well pleased with the selection of kits available. Was after a mandola or bouzouki kit, but then saw the lyre and ordered it, recieved my parcel today, ten days after ordering, i am in Australia so that is impressive ! very well packaged, and no problem with any parts, and all parts were present. This is a whole lot of harp for the size - great big sound, beautiful resonance, responsive string tension, and astonishingly light weight. The depth is good for a fairly small person - I've sometimes found my 36-string harp too much of a stretch to the bass. The Jolie Hybrid is a perfect harp for road trips and hospital/hospice work, and a pleasure to practice on. Very glad to have found it!

This is a lovely, well designed kit. I’m waiting on my lacquer to be delivered so I can finish it, but as usual the instructions and the material are top notch. I did make one change, based on another review I ordered book-matched mahogany and replaced the back that was sent with the kit. It’s a very good kit and it was a lot of fun to build, I recommend it.

The plans were very good and easy to follow, however I did have an issue with the dimensions for the bridges. The treble bridge was about 6mm short and the bass bridge about 12mm. Overall pleased and would reorder

My Sonnet lap harp has such a lovely voice! The angelite blue stain and the wood grain work together to give my harp such a unique and beautiful appearance. I am very happy I took a big leap of faith and made the decision to order a Sonnet harp even though I hadn't actually played one in person.

As someone with moderate woodworking skills who always wanted to try instrument-making, I was an am absolutely thrilled with this kit and the end result. The quality of materials is excellent, the instructions very thorough and easy to follow, and the difficulty rating is accurate, all of which allowed me to jump right in with confidence. On top of that, the company were on-point with their service and willingness to answer detailed questions regarding their product. I'd definitely recommend Musicmakers kits to anyone with an interest. Just one word of advice: make sure you're clear-headed when stringing it. Doing it while under brain-fog and having to redo that step is a drag. (Thatss obviously a user error, but an important consideration.)

I love making making and playing the instruments offered by MusicMakers, and after finishing the mountain banjo and hearing it’s great sound, I wanted to safely take it with me from time to time. I received my monochord on Saturday. It is absolutely beautiful, and I love it ! And incredibly, it was still in tune after all the shipping. The sound is both soothing and mesmerizing. I'm really glad I chose the Low C tuning, though each of the tunings have a captivating sound. I'm going to enjoy it with the original tuning for awhile before tuning it down to go with the B Celtic Minor RAV. I'm still enjoying the B Celtic tuning of my Reverie Harp, and am playing it every day. Am looking forward to trying all three together once I get the monochord tuned down. Love this duster. Have struggled to dust my Reverie Harp since 2015 and no tool worked for me. Voila! The duster is easy to use and cleans with little effort and in no time. Wish that I had found it eons ago. Happy to have it now. Once again.....Music Makers has a great tool.

We got the medium size for our daughter's Salvi Titan. The Titan is too large to carry around safely when she needs to move it inside of venues and a harp dolly isn't available. It did not take my husband long at all to put it together - maybe about an hour. I did the staining and that took some time. It worked great for its intended purpose, though I wouldn't use it on rough, uneven surfaces such as sidewalks.

This is my second floor harp built with resources from Music Makers. I enjoy my Voyageur but as I grow old and feeble the moving around of the harp gets more difficult. I read that the Jolie was almost a full stone lighter than "Lurch" and it had a lucky feature which would allow for the installation of a figurehead. The front of the pillar is flat! What luck. I had to have it. What? A 15% sale at the same time I was shopping? I spent the savings on those really nice cam lock sharping levers. Instructions are clear and detailed. I got luckier with this one and received some nicely figured boards. It was suggested to spend an extra week sanding and so I went for two and worked the surfaces all the way down to 320 grit paper. Like a mirror, this harp lights up a room. The sharping levers added a few pounds to the finished instrument but the reduction in girth and overall size makes it a breeze to move from home to gig. A different review described the sound as crisp and sharp. I agree. It is a pleasure to play and see. He has a face now.

I design, build, and play small wire strung harps. Three years ago I got a surprise extended gig which required a large harp. Went to price a new floor harp. Ow! Decided to rent one for three months. Ow! I always buy my folk harp parts from Music Makers so I looked at their kits. The Voyageur looked perfect for the job. The cost was competitive with the aforementioned alternatives but this selection would leave me with a large harp forever. I have an extensive woodshop and so it came together easily thanks to the thoughtful directions. It is robust, plays easily, attracts a crowd always and has a great and loud sound. I did not have the time to do a perfect finish job but it does make for a look that is both folksy and a bit "hand hewn". Added an internal 4 point pick up for group jamming, special effects and recording and have never regretted a second of my time with "Lurch". He pays his own way and rarely goes out of tune. This harp is portable as claimed, but it is a bit of a pain to load and I am glad I opted out of the mirror finish.

I love this harp desk. The design is great, I love that gravity holds it in place and it rests gently on my harp without damaging the finish. I find it easier to read the music and glance at my strings since the harp desk is closer than a regular music stand. Highly recommended!

I’m so pleased with my Monochord, there are no words to express the joy I feel while playing. Matt was wonderful to work with. I was under a time crunch and he made sure that I received it on time; actually it was received a few days earlier than expected. The Monochord was securely packaged and I love that it came with a gig bag. ❤️

Before you buy your harp, you need to look at how much work is involved with the physics in building a harp. Learning about the wood, pitches etc. is where you begin, and build from that knowledge.

You had excellent fast service and this zither key worked fantastically for my first Aeolian harp that I made on Bob's recommendation.

These are of good quality and recommend them for zither related projects.

As a working Certified Music Practitioner, being able to easily move my harp through facilities/patient rooms is incredibly important... but 2 years of Covid stopped me from being able to serve patients - and somehow, the strap/buckle to my platform got separated and lost! I reached out and asked if I could buy a replacement strap/buckle - got a response the same day and sent a link that would allow me to just buy the strap/buckle. It showed up just a few days later... and now I'm happily back to wheeling my harp safely and securely all through facilities! Music Makers are VERY responsive and fast on deliveries. Would give them 10 stars if possible!

I love the kit but it would be better if the beads included in the kit had pre-drilled holes in them for the string. I bought two of these kits for two harps I made and, for the price you pay for this kit, it was a little frustrating trying to drill a small hole straight though the included beads when they could have been pre-drilled for the user. Please change this.

I bought this kit about 20 years ago and am still playing. Instructions for assembly are always good and the hammered dulcimer is at an intermediate level to assemble. I suggest to add some nice laser cut rosettes for the sound hole, an electric tuner and the stand. A set of transduvers with sticky tape will help for amplification. Put clear finish on and start playing ... oh no! here is the tough part: You will have to tune 66 strings and the first time will take a while. The instrument stays nicely in tune and in many settings we get plenty of people to aks what our instruments are (my wife plays a studio harp I built for her) and how clean they sound.

I am thrilled with my harp desk. It has an ingenious design. Gravity and friction keep it in place, very clever. The thick cork pads grip well, but cannot damage my harp. It holds firm and will support an open 100 page spiral bound music book at any height. It is beautiful and well finished. The delivery was prompt and I was informed when it would be made and shipped soon after I made the order. Excellent experience overall.

Amazon sells the Donner 16-string lyre harp, which is an attractive instrument but which typically suffers from a manufacturing defect. I have so far bought two and a friend bought one, and all three arrived with slipping pins. Pintite is the stuff you want to use on those harps. (Hint: the pins are more than 11 full turns into the harp. Back each pin out at least 6 turns and make sure you get Pintite on all the threads.) Cleans up easily.

Just what we wanted, and for a lot less than anywhere else we could find. Well padded and protected, and with shoulder straps for hands-free transport.

Everything I hoped. The craftsmanship is excellent. I never knew one string and a bow could make such joyful noise. I look forward to hours of playing and, who knows, maybe trying out other instruments. Music books also very helpful

Wow is all I can say, and wish I could leave 100 stars instead of only 5 I want to learn to play the hsrp besutifully and am starting with no prior knowledge, except that I can read mysic. Pamela Bruner is one of those rare folks possessing the combination of being a gifted teacher who breaks things down into bite-sized, understandable pieces, complete with one or more and exercises (so you can PRACTICE the concept and ntil you own it) coupled with the expertise to actually play beautifully herself. I heartily recommend purchasing the first volume AND the DVD set (comes with 2 DVD’s covering the first two books). Some things need to be seen and then copied. I would say that for those of us who wish to learn correct form to play the harp, viewing Ms. Bruner as she shows how it is done is ESSENTIAL! The sound clarity and up clise finger shots are terrific! GREAT quality video work. If you cannot afford to buy the first volume and the DVD’s at the same time, but the book first, but purchase the DVD set which was made to support the 4 volumes of Learn to Play the Harp Beautifully ASAP!! Ms. Bruner has a lovely, peaceful, serene energy and she explains everything. If one takes her instruction step-by-dtep, it is clear hey can go far in playing the harp (beautifully and correctly). She’s my “go to” one and only distance harp teacher.

This is the second set of plans that I have gotten. The first set was only electronic, and I had a few issues printing them out to scale. This one was ordered at 100% paper scale, and I am rocketing through the fabrication. The process is clear and very well explained, and it seems like the designer was putting the harp together as they did the drawing. Problems or issues are anticipated and advice is sound. This probably will not be the last set of plans I get from MusicMakers.

I too want to be able to play the harp beautifully, and have drooled in envy over those on Youtube who play nicely. After researching various books and learning methods, I chose this book and am not sorry! The book takes things one step at a time and seems to leave nothing out. I just ordered the DVD set as well, as some of us (me included) are Monkey See-Monkey Do folks. It is so nice that each lesson includes the author's own music created specifically to play when learning the lesson! A terrific resource!!

I already have a Deering Goodtimes 2 banjo, but my wife said I don't have a Mountain banjo. So... that was an easy fix! I immediately bought the kit (fretted fingerboard, steel strings) with gig bag. This is my third harpkit build (after reverie harp and kantele). I am always impressed with the instructions and quality of the wood and hardware. This was the first time I added frets and truss rod, but the instructions were good, and I had no problems. I brought it to work (lots of admiring eyes on the wood quality and coloration). I used 5 coats of Tru Oil gunstock finish and some very light sanding. That's it. Not too shiny and not too dull. One of my coworkers plays in a bluegrass band, so I got to hear how it sounds when played by a professional. Amazing tone. He was impressed, especially for the cost. I guess I got the setup right. I also play guitar and have built a few kits. He liked the low action (lower than he was used to) and went back to adjust his lower. He owns $3K and $6K instruments, so I respect his opinion. He missed having side fret markers. So did I after he mentioned it. These were easily added and make a big difference. Well, enough writing... back to picking and grinning!

My son and I used the free mini-dulcimer plans and modified the design based on the full-size dulcimer plans from Smithsonian for a custom build. This kit is perfect to finish it up and includes all of the needed hardware for the mini. The parts all seem to be good quality and accurately sized to the plans. I highly recommend this well-priced kit if you are building a miniature dulcimer.

This instrument produces lovely and haunting sounds. I bought the Sparrow Hawk version because it came with instructions and a case for the instrument. I would encourage this unless you have had previous experience with this instrument. The instruction book is easy to follow and well written. Like any other instrument practice, practice, practice. Visually the flute is beautifully made and has a lovely finish which I am sure will enhance its life. I am so glad I made this purchase!

I absolutely loved this experience! The plans were very detailed, and when I needed help, the Musicmakers Customer Service was quick to respond with complete answers. You will need to be able to print the designs at full scale. The drawing itself is not in a standard architectural size, so you will have to get creative. Just make sure that the print is at 100% scale to save yourself issues. The top piece was a hardship for me, and took me three times to get right, but that was more user error then a design flaw. My harp came out great, my whole family is really happy with it!

After recently finishing a build of this harp, I figured I better have spare strings available, reading how many folks break a string during set up and tuning. My harp has been tuned several times with no broken strings - (yet). I feel the quality of Musicmakers string set is a reason. The strings come very well labeled and delivery was very prompt. Musicmakers is my main connection for harp supplies and very good advise when asked! Thank you.

Easy project, good instructions and materials. I used some walnut for the box and birch for the front/back. All the wood came from a few trees off a friends property, and it was a good way to put some of the smaller logs to good use. I'll definitely make a few more.

It took us a wee while to get them on, but they are good and very helpful in sessions - our local pub lighting is low, making it hard to see the strings, which is why I needed them. Only reason I'm not giving the full 5 stars is because of the battery case. The 9v battery does not connect properly with the connectors, so the battery was unstable and the lights kept going out! I've put a sticky pad in there to try to resolve it - hoping this will continue to work, but that's my only negative.

I went slow, read directions multiple times and watched videos. Videos are excellent, quick and to the point. When I was in doubt I found the people at Musicmakers to be kind and helpful in answering my questions. I am not a woodworker and do not have a workshop full of tools but that was not a problem. Building it was absolute fun! The harp sounds lovely with a bright resonant tone. I am over the moon pleased with my harp!

Matt was attentive to my questions and requests and I now have a beautiful looking and sounding monochord. I chose to upgrade to the Redwood sound board, paid for a custom stand and I asked for tuning in D/A. All accommodated by them. I love it. So easy to play which allows for me to easily tone and chant with it. Well done.

I purchased this to use with my amazing Reverie Harp. The two sound wonderful together. I am a Sound Therapist and have been looking at Monochords for some time. I bought the low C model. I set it up on a keyboard stand as suggested by a musician friend. Everyone that hears it wants it. They love it and I love it. It has a beautiful sound and a lot of resonance. It's great for vocal toning and chanting too. I play it alone and with the incredible Reverie Harp. I also add in a large tongue drum too sometimes. I can also use the mallets from the drum for a different sound both on the harp and monochord. The bag it comes with is well made and an extra bonus. Musicmaker instruments are beautifully made and the company is a joy to deal with. I recommend them to all my students and clients.

My husband started building my Jolie harp in February, the only difficult part was the high gloss finish I wanted. The kit was easy to purchase, and arrived safely. Customer service let me customize the wood choice so I could dye it blue, and they willingly sent me a small piece of wood to glue to the shoulder to make it fit better ( the pieces were cut separately from other kits since I got maple and not cherry). It is so lovely. I have been playing it for 5 months now, and it sounds better ( it was amazing from day one) as it sits, and the strings need less tuning. I am writing this review because I just tested two, much more expensive harps, and I like mine WAY better! The sound of the Jolie is more my style, I like bright tones in a celtic harp. It also has more resonance, the sound is bolder, and more consuming. I don't know how else to describe my love for the Jolie harp! I adore it. Aesthetically it is also better looking than most harps of a similar price range. Also, thank you to the designers and manufacturers, it really has blessed my life, and I want you to know your talents are appreciated. Thank you so much for sharing them!

A musician friend introduced me to the Reverie harp and suggested that I just start playing. There's no experience needed. Before I knew it, 15 minutes had passed. I felt as if I had been transported into the clouds and was playing unimaginably beautiful music with the angels. I have never played a harp before, and yet, I made music. The harp is exquisitely made and the skill and care that went into making the harp is palpable. The day after I played my friend's harp, I purchased one for myself. It is every bit as glorious as my friend's harp and I know I will be playing it as often as I can I find myself at a loss for words that adequately describe the magic of the Reverie harp. I can say for sure that its music is enthralling and you will be thrilled to have one.

My wife bought a beautiful one of a kind handmade 30-string Celtic harp more than 10 years ago, which was her first harp of that size, after she'd been playing a lap harp for a year or so. She therefore already was accustom to being able to change keys with levers. She asked me to add levers. I tried a couple kinds and found these to be the best available at the time. We hated the prospect of spending $375 (at the time) on a full set of levers (plus a lot of effort to install such that they function correctly), so we bought just enough to add one more key or two at a time. I spent about 4 years adding 4, 8 or 12 levers at a time until she finally had the full set. They work very well. Installing them does take some skill and patience, and means to verify the pitch, but I'm sure that's the case regardless of lever design. We've had these installed for many years now and she plays the harp regularly and has used the harp with these levers for many public performances. They are high quality and work equally well for her highest and lowest strings.

I built the Hurdy Gurdy kit and ended with a beautiful instrument. BUT, the sound was terrible. The problem was the economy strings included. Luckily, I came across these Hurdy Gurdy Strings. I took a chance and ordered a set. The difference in sound was absolutely amazing! If you’re going to spend the bucks on the kit, spend a little more and also get the strings.

I bought this kit as I am an experienced woodworker, but had never built a musical instrument and wanted to give it a try. I wanted something fancier than the standard wood so purchased some curly koa for the top and bottom as well as some curly maple veneer for the sides. The kit went together very easy and the instructions were helpful and accurate. I wish I could post a picture to show how terrific it turned out! Oh... and it plays well too! Overall a great experience!

I've tried a few musical instrument kits and this one is by far my favorite. I typically have done them because I enjoy the process and it's fun to make music on them when it's done. The mandola was by far the most time consuming kit I've done but the end product was a legit instrument. I use to have a ukulele tuned GDAE to mess around with fiddle tunes but the mandola is now my go to GDAE like instrument.

This harp is a work of art. It is rare to find such high quality workmanship - and an absolute joy when I do. The sound is strong and clear, and has a magical quality (as is the case with harps, but this one in particular). All in all, if I could afford a bigger harp from Musicmakers, I wouldn't hesitate. Their work is beyond compare!

Okay, I bought a Reverie "just because". I play both pedal and lever harp. I practice hard and I love each in their own way. But, sometimes, I just want to mindlessly "noodle". The Reverie allows that - no matter what strings you touch, the sound is lovely. The shape is comfortable and the workmanship exquisite. I have used this harp to play for a dying collie and he responded with calming respirations until he passed. I took this harp to a friend with severe PTSD and saw him smile and relax for the first time in days. I also took it to a friend who was hospitalized after surgery and he told me it was "his lifeline" and how much he enjoyed serenading the nurses. This is a wonderful little harp! It is convenient to carry on a trip to the park or beach, easy to tune and the carry bag is substantial. I love this harp for peaceful relaxation in the hammock, sitting on a bench in the park (you may draw admirers!) and for any time you want harp music that you can just play gently and calmly and without worrying about your timing or how hard that piece of music is to practice!

The Cajon drum kit is a great beginning project for musical instrument builders. It went together quite easily with the provided instructions. It turned out quite sturdy and has a nice variety of sounds you can make with it.

I settled on about 5 different harps before finding this one by chance. The sound was just what I was looking for, and I couldn't pass up the opportunity to make my own. The woodworking took me two weekends. The finishing took a while, because I am 1) inexperienced and 2) a super-perfectionist. In the end, it turned out wonderful and sounds fantastic, and I love that I can say that I built it myself. This was the perfect model for me because it had my ideal number of strings, a warm sound, and is compact. Customer service was very kind and helpful. Will definitely make future purchases from MusicMakers.

Seriously, it's a threaded tuning pin. Good quality, exactly as described. I've ordered these twice - three to replace the tapered cello-style pegs (What a pain to tune with!) on my symphonie and twenty-five to replace the bog-standard tapered pins on my Witcher Trondheim harp. (I used the D-sized bit, also from Musicmakers, for both applications.) For the symphonie, I had to drill another string hole through the key-end of the shaft on one of the tuning pins; slowly with a good bit and some cutting oil, it worked fine. These are much better than tapered tuning pins. If you're building or restoring a harp (or symphonie!) you should consider using these. Note 1: Initial installation takes longer than for tapered pins, because each pin must be screwed into the hole, rather than just press-fit. The fine threads require thirty to fifty rotations, depending on the thickness of the wood. I used a ratchet with a 5.5mm 12-pt socket. Note 2: The (kind of scary) statement on the product page (at this writing) that if you make a mistake, you can ream the hole for a tapered pin makes little sense to me. The tapered pin holes on the Trondheim were *smaller* than the D-sized drill bit used for these threaded pins. (Granted, this is a singular datum, but there it is.) Plus, there are ways to deal with an oversized hole, from shims to fill-and-redrill.

I’ve had my Sonnet for a little over a week, and it is my favorite among my several harps. The sound far exceeded my expectations, and it looks beautiful in an understated way (I have the natural cherry finish). It is lightweight and easy to take outdoors, which is something I do frequently, and I expect it will work very nicely for playing in nursing homes and other facilities. It has plenty of volume for playing in common areas, as well as in residents’ rooms. It sits nicely on my lap, and feels very stable while I’m playing. The string spacing feels comfortable, as well. I was also very pleased with the whole ordering experience through Music Makers.

These herringbone strips add a timeless, traditional accent to custom built instrument, whether used for bindings, purflings, or rosettes. They also are shipped in a unique package to ensure that they arrive at their destination intact.

These are my favorite tuners for the ukuleles that I build. They are smooth , no slop, and very elegant. These fine tuners are not available at either of the luthier supply houses, that I'm aware of..

These string are excellent for DGBE tuning on a tenor banjo. I have an old tenor and it really came to life with these strings. The DGBE tuning is an easy crossover from the the guitar o6 baritone uke.

I purchased my kit in March 2020 and just got around to finishing it Monday (a total of around 4 months working at a very relaxed pace on every other weekend or so). This was my first music kit project, but I had some woodworking knowledge going in (as well as tools) that were very helpful, and I imagine it might be difficult to complete for total beginners with no tools on hand. In addition to what was provided in the kit, I used about the following, to give an idea of what you might want to have on hand before doing this project: - plane or chisel (for shaping the soundchamber) - no-kerf saw (for sawing off excess at various steps) - belt sander (for adjusting miters on trim and shaping the top block) - handheld belt sander (for fitting the top block to the neck installation) - snips (for cutting strings to length after installation) - lots of sandpaper from 80 to 240 grit - and of course a drill and wood glue. One or both of the belt sanders could be replaced by sufficient time and elbow grease, of course. The instructions also suggest an orbital sander to put a radius on the corners of the soundchamber at the end, although I found that doing this by hand at a light grit was sufficient. One difficult point is in the installation of the tuning pins in the neck after the rest of the harp is together--for this a hand drill is suggested; I tried it with a power drill and destroyed the brass driver (as expected), but was able to install the pins anyway using a tuning wrench and the microthreads. This takes a while (and you have to be careful to not let it heat up too much). I think a hand drill is needed for this step. Also, a Brad point 3/8" bit is ideal for the fitting of the neck/pillar construction to the soundchamber. The pieces of the kit fit very well together, and I can confirm that the owner is indeed very responsive to questions--MusicMakers is excellent in this regard. With the additional tools listed above, the kit is a breeze to assemble, and the instructions are mostly clear and easy to follow. I finished my harp with two coats of Lee Valley's polymerized Tung oil and two coats of beeswax, polishing with #0000 steel wool in between, and am very happy with the finish. The harp sounds and looks lovely when the time is taken to assemble it properly. Now it's time to learn how to play the thing.

I had been wanting a harp for about 40 years now. But all full size harps with levers have never been possible because of cost. The building process is tedious and precarious, but worth it, because you will know the instrument every square inch. It will not just be something you bought somewhere, it will be something you built and know.

I love my harp. The sound is great to harmonize me after a long day at work or just to dream :-)) It is easy to play and the instrument is very beautiful. :-)

When I unboxed my Sonnet, I literally gasped...what a beauty! The Vivid Color Sonnet absolutely shimmers in the angelite blue. She's a lovely shade of deep blue, almost what I would call peacock blue. The quilted maple soundboard looks like ripples on a lake and I can't stop touching this beautiful instrument. I expected to have to tune frequently because everything is new, but the strings are holding pitch surprisingly well for being new. Now back to job one, playing the harp. What a difference the sound holes on the side make to a lap harp. My husband comment on how loud it was, and he said that he actually like the sound of it better than my larger 34-string harp (sorry, Crescendo!) I like the range of notes available, and the richness of the lower strings is impressive. I'm not sure how often I'll use the highest notes, but it's good to have them there just in case. I found the most comfortable way to hold the harp was nestled onto my right shoulder, with the bulk of the weight on my left leg. (The strap is a useful option here.) I like the non-slip surface on the bottom, too. The case is perfect, nicely padded and with a good deep pocket for stuff. I also ordered an extra set of strings because, well, you just never know... This little sweetheart is so easy to snuggle up to and just noodle around on. I look forward to taking her along to music afternoons with my friends. Her name is Birdie, and she sings!

I have the green harp and it is beautiful. The sound is so lovely. I am very impressed! Even my older sister, who claimed previously to not like harps so much, likes the sound of this harp! I’ve had both my Mom and sister try it out, too... they can’t stay away, either. I’m thrilled this is my first harp. For anyone hesitant about buying one, please don’t be scared to try a new instrument to learn. There are lots of helpful tutorials online. As for this particular harp, I chose it because it’s lightweight and portable, and for the large sound despite its more compact size. Although I had to wait a few months for it to arrive I am more than happy to finally own a harp of my own. I would recommend getting an extra spare set of strings as well. 💚💚💚 I am looking forward to my ongoing journey learning how to play the harp!

What incredible sound! It just reverberates for such a long length of time. At first, I wondered if this was worth the money, for someone like me, who just wants to pick it up and creatively play for fun and relaxation. I am not a musician, but I am very creative. The answer is astoundingly, YES! I make up my music as I go, and through experimentation you can find a lot that sounds awesome on this sweet, portable, little gem of an instrument. It is most definitely staying with me for life. I really thought I would run out of ways to play it, but I keep finding more and more ways. The sound and beauty of the wood on the vivid is sooo worth it, it has such depth the way it has been finished. I recognize how much that was put into the shape of it, the design, and the sound. Even more important than that is the benefit one gets from it: it is relaxing, calming, and I find it changes my breathing pattern to such a relaxed state. I know it was created with that in mind, along with music therapy, but I wanted to just play it and enjoy it for me. It’s really easy to fall in love with the sound. It’s a bit of a blessing and a gift, to be honest, and these things can’t be judged by simply looking at it online: playing with such a beautiful sounding instrument that delivers peace and serenity right back to you in the form of deep relaxation. The order process was easy and the plans were immediately available for download. These plans were a great start and provided the details needed. Had no issues getting a full sized print made at a local print shop. I also printed out a copy and glued together individual sections for several of the pieces. I personally would have liked several individual drawings rather than the one big sheet just because it would be easier to manage. I also printed a half size version to use as a workshop reference. I am fabricating all the wood pieces from scratch. This is a medium/advanced woodworking project. The plans are complete and accurate. The resulting build has gone well. I've completed the main structure and am looking forward to applying finish and installing the hardware. I can recommend these plans for anyone interested in wanting to build their first Hammers Dulcimer.

I'm so very pleased with my new Lynda Lyre. This is my first harp like instrument after having played the guitar and ukulele since childhood. On first touching the instrument it felt so foreign and I was assuming it would take me a lot of practice to start making some clean sounds. My left, non picking hand on guitar, is indeed pretty clumsy and needs a lot of practice time, but my right hand can already play a nice tune within a week. The design is beautiful and the sound to do for or rather, heavenly. I love the resonant, soft and yet carrying sound of the nylon strings. As a singer I hope to be using this lyre interspersed between my guitar accompanied songs, as part of sound healing, and in particular to help heal my tbi symptoms, along with some other healing instruments.

I purchased the kantele kit as a relaxing project to start a woodworking hobby. It is lovely. The boards are gorgeous and high quality. The directions are clear, and the videos give a person the extra confidence to go forward. I appreciate the supportive attitude of the staff, and the encouraging emails that they have sent. I suspect that I will be purchasing again, as time goes on.

Just what I needed to finish the Celtic harp I was making. The price is reasonable, quality is great. I ended up buying two more for future projects.

I am very pleased with the harp string set recently received from MusicMakers it matches my own design and built 33string staved back harp perfectly and sounds great. There is enough length in the upper end strings to provide spares for possible breakages,so this an added bonus The only problem postage between USA and Australia is very slow at the moment due to covid19

Everything in the kit is of excellent quality and well designed. The instructions are complete and easy to follow. A drill press for this one is almost a must for accuracy, other than that a few clamps and sandpaper are all that is needed.

beautiful resonance and sustain, clear, bell-like tones, beautifully put together, very nice wood, and a beautiful rosette. Packaged and shipped without hassle or incident, and superbly protected from shipping damage, and their customer service is great! We purchased 2 Kantele one each for my wife and one for me, on separate orders, Musicmakers called to make sure this was right, rather than just making and shipping them. And they're assembled beautifully-completely professional luthiers at MusicMakers! If the stars could make music, they'd sound like a kantele.

I'd seen Julie Fowlis using a shruti box on YouTube, so when Musicmakers offered a coupon I thought I'd give it a try. This isn't the most beautiful shruti box on the market (but there was a coupon!), but it has a lovely tone and is easy to use.

I bought this for my wife. She loves it and said it was full sounding while it rested in her lap. The string spacing was easy to adapt to quickly. She is shorter in stature, so we added the strap for security, and she can place it a bit lower for easier playing. She is very happy with this harp. I would recommend it highly.

Full size plans are the only way to go. I had the 3’x4’ sheet copied, cut apart and glued to 1/8” hardboard. This allows for specific placement on the various wood pieces. The plans are well laid out. And the kit instructions (in color) certainly keep me on the right path. Thank you MusicMakers!

Have built the harp and found it went together very easily. The instructions are well written and pictures help to clarify any questions. We are in the process of sanding and varnishing. We have called with a few questions (like about levers) to the support phone number, and they have been courteous and very helpful.

My initial assessment was semi favorable but in laying the pieces I discovered that the cross cuts on the sides were not square and in no way going to fit properly to the corner blocks. These were not cut consistently and are far from a proper mating angle and will need to be recut or replaced in their entirety. Beyond that I guess I'll work out any unknown bugs as I go. I am experienced enough to rectify these issues but did expect a much better condition of fit.

I originally bought this as a kit more than ten years ago. It has withstood the test of time as an instrument that my twelve-year-old daughter learned on, then used to play weddings, recitals, small-venue gigs, and then make recordings with. The build quality is excellent and the overall volume and sound compare favorably with more expensive harps.

I have the first stages of macular degeneration and was finding it difficult seeing the strings on these dark winter afternoons. Now I can see the strings - wonderful, thank you. Is easy to install and I have velcroed the battery box just inside the sound board so I can easily switch them on and off.

This was such an enjoyable project, I am now ready to start on my second one. The hardware and plywood soundboard and back materials were excellent quality. The blueprint parts can be traced onto acetate for best accuracy to transfer to wood for cutting or drilling.

I have not had the Harp Desk for very long but I can clearly state that it is a wonderful addition to my music room. I also want to compliment Music Makers on their great customer service. My only regret is that I did not buy it earlier! It takes a touch of genius to create a thing of beauty which is practical, constructed from things found in nature and functions with the law of gravity. Bravo! Encore!

This is a huge benefit to community of harp makers. I deeply thank you for this. It would save me a lot of time and trouble if I would know it when I was firstly calculating strings for my "zeroth" harp. Thank you for that! I dont want to be too much demanding but it would be awesome if there could be an option to use metric system. Sorry about that but you imperials units drive non-U.S. crazy :) Actually you should start to use metric generally! =) String gauge 0,6mm instead of 0,0236" would make everything easier =)

As always, Musicmakers can be counted on for great customer service. Just as a heads up, I you got one of the earliest Voyageur harps, they have changed the gauges of some of the strings so you may need to make some adjustments. My C3-G3 strings were originally plain nylon but the current set calls for nylon wrapped. The diameter of the strings is greater and may not easily fit through the old eyelets. Better to call in your order for these strings and sort out if you might have same problem that I had. The matter was promptly resolved and I am loving the sound of this upgraded higher tension string set.

I have just completed my second musical instrument DIY kit from Musicmakers. Last year I did the mountain dulcimer and this year I did the Lynda Lyre. I have always found the musicmakers products to be very high quality and worth the price. The instruments are not only beautiful, but functional and produce a wonderful sound. I can’t rave enough about the dulcimer in regards to the quality and beauty of the wood. The Lyre is a gorgeous instrument, however I was a little disappointed to realize the back panel was only hard wood veneer not solid wood. I have grown to expect better quality from musicmakers. It is the type of thing that only the person building the instrument would notice but for the price I expected solid hard wood. Also the cardboard template could be more exact. I love both of these instruments and have received many compliments on their beauty.

The kit was well packed and all parts included. The timber components are excellent, with one exception, the back ply looks ugly when the round over with router is completed. It looks like MDF between the outer veneers and does not finish as well as the top. A solid back maybe the best option

I $$ one last spring...assembled albeit with limited tools and a proper tuner... its pretty much dead on... a wonderful project...worth the money and time!!!

.It was about 6 months ago that I completed my Baritone Uke kit and I still play it everyday. It has in fact become my preferred instrument to take with me....well...everywhere, the laundromat, to work for a quickie at lunch, on those weekend motorcycle rides or to play while hiking in the woods. It has a wonderful sound and is so much lighter and smaller than my guitar that I keep it with me constantly. It's fun to show off a little pride of ownership and be able to say "I built this one". I did a few extra things to mine like the mother of pearl heart inlaid to the headstock and dots along the neck so although it was a kit it is unique, one of a kind. I will pass this down to my children and grandchildren. Like any quality instrument the sound continues to grow sweeter and sweeter the more I play. This is my second kit from Music Makers, the first was the Lynda Lyre harp and I plan to build a few more, I think next might be the Hurdy Gurdy or the mandolin or the...... I would love to send a photo to show off the mother of pearl inlay...How Do I ?

Quite easy to build. I made one mistake which required some corrective ingenuity, but that was my fault :) Built in a day. Finished the next. Plays well, tunes easily, sounds great. Everything you could ask for. And the music sheets make it possible for anyone to play music their very first try!

I had been wanting to learn how to play the harp for many years, but wasn't sure about making the investment. When I came across the Lynda Lyre I thought it would be the perfect way to get familiar with these types of instruments- and it was! The lyre is expertly crafted out of beautiful materials and sounds absolutely blissful. Within just a few hours I was playing some simple melodies, with no previous experience at all. Some have mentioned that the strings are a bit closer together than on other instruments but for me, at least, they are perfectly spaced. Tuning is very easy (I chose the nylon strings for the harp-like sound). I have found that there are a couple of ways to hold the lyre and it's mostly a matter of finding an arrangement that works for you. It's also lightweight and comes with a high-quality padded bag, making it very portable. It's such a fun instrument to have around and I would highly recommend it to others who are interested in harps and lyres and are looking for an easy introduction to them.

It is my first harp. I am very impressed by the beauty of the instrument. I saw it had just been crafted. It is art by itself. Its smell, its shape, it is very sensual. I love touching it. Playing it makes me relax quite instantly. As a contemplative person, I am like in a bubble where nothing else exists but the sound and vibration. I better understand why it is not meant first for performance nor playing songs. I see that the best to enjoy the harp is to let go and just play. It is a discovery, different each time.  I like very much the idea to create something and be connected with myself through the instrument. I also appreciated the close customer service through Matt who took time to answer my questions. I am at the beginning of a journey with my precious harp :)

Just wanted to let you know how much I LOVE my harp wheels. I received it today and immediately strapped my Dusty Strings Crescendo onto it, and I still can't believe how easily I can now transport from one room to another. The medium size base is the perfect size for my harp and is not too wide to fit in the corner of the room where I keep it when I'm not playing it. My husband and I have occasional back issues and I was looking for a way to move it without either of us straining our backs. Thank you so much for a wonderful solution.

I just wanted to share how much I love my harp. I've played violin from elementary school through college, and pick it up once in awhile, yet really wanted a different musical experience... learning the harp was laid on my heart, and I found your business. I cannot begin to thank you, and/or to express how much joy it brings to my life, and to others that I play for... so much that I named my harp Joy! The tone is out of this world... even playing "twinkle twinkle little star," the sound is incredible. I invested in the wheels recently, they are amazing :)

I am still getting acquainted with this delightful instrument, but it definitely lives up to my expectations so far. The sound is exceptional for such a small instrument, the range is just right, and it is very portable. Thank you for another great instrument!

I purchased the hardware and blueprints for two animal harps- one for each granddaughter. The instructions were clear and the build is easy. The parts arrived with one small piece missing. When I called the company, the representative was very apologetic and expedited delivery of the part the next day. I'm very pleased with the finished product. This is not a high quality harp, but it's not meant to be. It's a fun introductory instrument for children.

This thing is absolutely fantastic. I own a plucked psaltery that came with what's literally just a four inch chunk of metal as a tuning wrench. It physically hurt me to try to use. I'm also Autistic so fine motor skills are something I often struggle with. The steel tuner was NOT compatible with my difficulties. This thing makes tuning SO much easier. Granted, plucked psaltery is really sensitive, but this lets me meet it where it needs it. SO glad I found this thing. My instrument would've just kept languishing away had I not gotten this...

I echo the sentiment in other reviews, I thought (when I purchased my harp) that I didn't need a stand; but it is so beautiful I want to safely and easily display my harp. This stand is easy to use and, with the decorative rosettes, adds an additional layer of beauty to the instrument.

I finally decided to add a lap harp to my collection and I'm so glad I chose the Sonnet! Musicmakers worked closely with me throughout the process and customized a few things that made this harp simply perfect for me. It meets and exceeds even my highest expectations. The finish is glossy and beautiful and the soundbox shape and unique design work perfectly to amplify the warm tone. The harp sounds full and rich and is so easy to hold I forget it's not a floor harp. I've had it for several weeks now and often find myself reaching for it for quick noodling or longer practice sessions. I've played in the park, on my couch and bed, on the floor, in my yard, and, yes, at my harp stool. I'm looking forward to many years of mobile harping with this beauty. I've played several different styles of dulcimer hammers, and these stand out. The balance point is just behind the tip of the handle, making them quick and responsive. After researching for a few years, but only playing moderate piano, I settled on a vivid color sonnet lap harp. I've had it 5 months and love the sound. I'm slowly learning to play at 15-30 min. a day, and can play some lovely simple tunes. I love the glossy finish, the added lights, and I splurged on the Camac levers as well as a rose inlay on the pillar. The sound is delightful (when I'm not the problem, lol). People see her in my living room and are stunned at the beauty. Then they often ask to try playing. Which I indulge. I really enjoyed the process when Jacob kindly sent me photos to check colors and share the progress. She even has a name, Ailsa Maeve—Supernatural Victory and Intoxicating (which is what it feels like to play and enjoy the harp after wishing for one all my life.) Thank you to all the team that helped me get this beautiful instrument. It's a treasure to me.

I bought these strings to use on a 4-string guitar of same scale length. It will not stay in tune. I had the same problem with a Musicmakers classical guitar. I gave that guitar to a friend. He restrung it and says it works great.

just wanted to let you know how much I love my vivid yellow Jolie, now known as "Sunny". It is so beautiful and the sound blew me away when I first plucked the strings -- what a huge sound for such a compact instrument! It's rich, resonant and warm. In 2017, I bought the Jolie Harp at the Somerset Folk Harp Festival. As I did not play at that time, I was nervous about this purchase. Since then, I found that the Jolie harp has a great sound. Just last week, my teacher commented on it. The size is perfect for me even if it has 33 strings, and the light weight is appreciated when I have to carry it from one place to another. The carrying bag and the wheels is well design and help a lot. Not able to find string replacements in my area, I made inquiry with MusicMaker by email. Following their quick answer, I ordered what I needed. Living outside the US and with the Covid restrictions, I was expecting my order at the following month. Today I was delighted to receive a package from MusicMaker. What surprised me the most it how quick the whole process took. Their customer service is great! Thanks !

Ordered and downloaded the plans and followed the directions to enlarge the plans to full size on my standard printer. The plans came out great and all I had to do is tape them together.

I own a bigger, pricier, and heavier harp as my main instrument but this is so light and portable! It is comfortably easy to move around the house and transport in the car for music lessons and workshops. I heartily recommend it as a great beginner harp for adults and even children due to its good sound, comfortable petite size, wide range of strings, and the lightness of the strings on the fingers. This was a great purchase!

I made a few Studio Harps as different "experiments" . I presently rented them out to a music school to start a harp class. This fits my need perfectly. Great construction and great price.

I got the kit to build myself and it made for a very special harp for my daughter's birthday that she's wanted for years. I surprised myself for how well it turned out and how fun it was to build. I hope to do more in the future!

Thank you for creating another harp beautiful in all ways! The Sonnet looks absolutely lovely and it has a strong, clear sound. It sits comfortably on my lap, and the added range of strings is wonderful. The color codes on the levers as well as the circular colored rings on the tuning pins are so helpful. The travel bag is very well made. I also purchased, afterwards, a set of strings which came well organized and packaged. I recently asked my harp teacher to test her out, and she was amazed at its sounds. She said MusicMakers makes such great instruments. Thank you to everyone who had a part creating my Sonnet harp!

This was a perfect project for these stay-at-home times. The instructions were clear and easy to follow, even for someone without much woodworking experience, and the results are definitely something I can be proud to own. This made me want to try another Musicmakers kit!

Worked well. I've built two for my grandkids. I found that having no back made it difficult to stay in tune, so I did add an 1/8" baltic birch back and it made it very stable. I had so much fun with it I made a full size one for myself from the plans from music maker.

For the price, this is a really great way to start with the tenor banjo. The kit was well laid-out, with all the parts you need, including drill bits and an Allen wrench. The materials were also of good quality. The instructions were clear, but not always consistent. For instance, they recommend installing the frets in the fingerboard before attaching the fingerboard to the neck, however, the pictures show the fingerboard being glued to the neck without the frets installed. That may be confusing, but just follow the instructions (install frets first) and it will work great. There are a couple of things I'd recommend to the builder. First, the shape of the neck will make a huge difference on the playability of the banjo, so spend some time on this step. Additionally, setting the string height via the slot depth in the nut will also affect playability. Again, take time to do this well. I have some experience building instruments so I did a few additional "tweeks" for sound and playability. First-time builders may not want to venture that far, but I thought I'd just mention them: !. I found the leather protective patch to dull the sound of the strings a little, so I fashioned a piece of ebony to match the curve of the body. It sits between the strings and the body just as the leather is supposed to. The tone was brighter and louder with the ebony than the leather. 2. I spent some time leveling the frets to improve playability. This required re-crowning the leveled frets with a crowning fret file (and some experience). It took three days to complete the kit, most of which was waiting on the finish to dry, but it was quite easy. Overall, I'm very pleased with how this turned out.

It came very fast, but the box had fragile stickers all over it and was crushed. Everything survived it was a different color or type of wood but I am having fun.

The harp desk is perfect for reading music as you play - no more fighting with the legs of a separate music stand to try to get it in the right place. And it is beautiful! Can’t get any better than that - functional and beautiful! Very happy with this purchase! Thank you!

I love this book. I'm only giving it 4 stars because it's a little light on theory, but it has some great information and enough "nuts and bolts" knowledge to help you get the job done well. Definitely worth the price, and I recommend it.

I haven't been as excited about a new Harp accessory as the day I got my new Harp Desk! It is absolutely beautiful wood work!! I love that my "stand" is closer (easier to read the music) and is SO much easier to reach out and tap the page turn on my iPad (because it's closer to reach). The "small" width Harp Desk is perfect for my 12" iPad Pro. I wish I would of bought this years ago - it is so fantastic! Now I can do away with my iPad stand for when I go to play in the hospitals. Thanks Music Makers for making such beautiful wood work! I love it :)

I'm so pleased with my new Sonnet harp! My primary harp is a large and heavy floor harp that's difficult to transport, so I'd been looking for a comfortable, beautiful-sounding smaller harp and took a chance by ordering a Sonnet. It's everything I could have hoped for: rich, sweet sound, comfortable to hold, and easy to pack up and transport. Because I have a shorter torso, I don't find it comfortable to hold on my lap as shown in the video, but by wearing the strap (which I asked to have installed) while sitting, I'm able to situate the harp lower on my knees and anchor it comfortably while playing. The Camac levers were a great upgrade, and I was so happy with the communication with the Musicmakers team, who always responded promptly and kindly to my emails while my harp was being made. Overall, I'm just so happy and highly recommend this lovely smaller harp!

I wanted something different to do during pandemic isolation and saw this instrument on line so decided to give it a try. Everything arrived well packaged and on time. Beautiful pieces of wood and well crafted hardware. I followed the easy to understand instructions, put 6 thin coats of oil based poly on it. It's gorgeous looking and sounds even better. The only recommendation I have is to use a drill press if you have one available. I used a hand drill with a block guide. Difficult to see what's happening and hard to hold so close to the curved edge, yet I was able to get 22 perfect tuning pin holes. Can't wait to get started on the next build, just ordered a Dakota Mandola kit from MM.

Great beginner kit. Straightforward, complete, pieces were mostly well cut, instructions clear -- and helped much by the video. The top and bottom pieces were not symmetrical, but only off a bit and not enough to not fit the frame and, anyway, it gives the instrument character, right?

The Kantele kit is terrific. The wood pieces are beautiful and very accurately cut, making assembly easier than expected. The instructions are clear and complete. I have had a couple of minor questions that I sent in and I got very helpful responses in just a few hours, even on the weekend. I am looking forward to playing the kantele after putting the finish on in the next couple of days.

I have a Dusty Strings FH36 and a Stoney End Loralea (same design as the Lorraine but strung F-F). Both work well on the medium size platform. Unlike the photo, the Harp Wheels is now designed with two straps, one at the back and one at the front, which makes for more versatility and safety. Haven't tried with the harps in bags, but will want the wheels mainly for indoor use anyway. Another satisfied customer!

I wanted this harp when I first saw it, but had to wait til I could afford it. It was worth it. It is beautiful, and beautiful sound.. I had 2 friends over and played all my harps for them, and they loved this one, said it was the best. I agree. Right size, right color, right sound. It is great.

Two beautiful pieces of wood, needed very little sanding. I applied 4 hand rubbed coats of oil based polyurethane satin for a beautiful finish. Installed the hardware set, very easy to do. It will be a beautiful complement to my Reverie Harp.

The kit comes with everything you need and although it is a kit there is still room to be creative and build an instrument that will be truly unique. Having some experience with wood working I did some inlay work with mother of pearl and shaped the fret board so pleasing to the eye as well as the ear. easy to follow directions step by step guide you from start to strings. Mine sounds and plays wonderful too. I am so proud to show and tell my friends that yes, I made this !! I wish this review would let me post some pictures ??

having had great success with my first 'Limerick' harp build and now on my second for my two nieces am delighted with the speedy service I have received.

I have no formal music training, but I can make beautiful sounds with this harp. Lots of fun just seeing what you can do with it and very relaxing just to strum and feel the vibrations against your body. Wonderful therapeutic value in this insane world.

I purchased the Concert Uke Kit as a Father's Day gift for my dad who is a skilled woodworker and loves intricate projects like this. It was out of stock and when I called Musicmakers to see if there was something similar I could purchase, I was put on hold for a brief second and then told they could put a kit together and send it out that same day! The kit and comprehensive instruction book are both of excellent quality. My dad was thrilled and is very much looking forward to assembling it. An enormous thank you to the Musicmakers team!

Fun.... beautiful... and a great way to learn this lyre.... finished it in two days.... now, awaiting the drying from Varathane 3X satin..... This is the second kit.... I built the Cheyenne Harp, also quite easy.... it has been in several TV shows from my auditions as an actor.... come one Musicmakers.... give me a challenging kit!! Reasonably priced precision tuners are nearly as rare as white crows, but these are the real deal. The gear ratio allows precise setting, backlash is minimal, and the setting holds well. Truly a bargain at the price. As good as the tuners are, the service from Musicmakers is even better. When Fedex recently bungled a delivery, Musicmakers stepped up and replaced the product immediately--no red tape or awkward exchanges. They're a pleasure to deal with.

I received my Voyageur harp last Saturday safe and sound. I am very pleased with the high quality and overall beauty of the design - it is like a piece of artwork. I cannot keep my eyes off of it. Not only is the design easy on the eyes, but it also has a big, gorgeous, and warm timbre that fills up the entire room. However, lo and behold, it arrived with the harp and with the rosette I chose. First - I have just started construction of the kit, so review might not be complete. The materials appear to be high quality. I have built two other instruments, both from kits. Instructions are very complete, with photos. A few things that you need to be aware of. This is VERY important: check that all parts are as described. I have been woodworking for many years and know one wood from another. The back sent with the kit did not look like mahogany ; it was in fact Maple. I called the company, questioning this and talked to a luthier. He told me that they were shipping a mandolin kit and my kit at the same time and the front/ back parts got mixed up. I was never notified of this error. Luckily. I noticed the error before building the kit. They were very apologetic. and sent out the right back/front pieces with a call-tag to return the wrong pieces. Point being - check all pieces carefully. They were very accommodating and handled the problem in a quick and professional manner. I have since received the correct parts and returned the wrong ones. So far, the pieces appear to be well machined. The ribs seem to have a large amount of dried glue to be sanded off? This kit requires a fair amount of sanding (especially the walnut corner blocks I received in my kit ) so using cabinet scrapers might make the chore a little easier. Then again, what else do we have to do during this quarantine ?

The Jolie harp was recommended by a couple of experienced harpists I trust, and I'm so glad I now have a Jolie of my own. The harp is beautiful, the build quality is excellent, and the harp sounds wonderful. I think the aircraft birch soundboard will be great for the extremely dry climate where I live, and the warranty offered by Musicmakers is great for my peace of mind. The harp projects well and the spacing and tension of the strings is very comfortable. I'm very happy with my new harp!

Just got my Ballad Harp...love it. Just my size (I'm short with small hands). Great sound...better than I had imagined. And...the weight is perfect, not like other harps I've had that weigh over 30-40 lbs or more. Great work, guys.

The bridges are well cut, but could be smoother in the valleys. The groove is well maintained (1/8") through the bridge with no damage to the bead. The sides did have some roughness as well. Since they took to time to stain the base, more sanding would have helped.

Worked as described, nice quality fast service. I may start putting these in with the Aeolian Harps I sell so my customers can do "tune-ups".

I've been wanting a traditional instrument to learn for awhile, and when the pandemic lockdown was starting decided that this fit my budget and skill level nicely. The basic construction was fairly simple but involved enough to be satisfying. I really stretched the time out by hand sanding and learning to wood burn to decorate the sides. Quality of parts is very nice, the mahogany is beautiful. Had a very nice sound and I'm enjoying learning to play traditional music and fantasy songs! Overall I'd say this kit is very much worth the money! Great quality, not too difficult with basic skills, but lots of room for creativity!

I bought my first Reverie Harp in Sedona, AZ. Fell absolutely in love with it. I must add I play no strings instruments, only drums. I picked it up and just started messing around with it in the store! I bought it instantly. I played it so much that my fingers got blisters. I have no idea what I am doing on that thing but people keep telling my I sound like I have been playing forever! One person even wanted to book me for a wedding!! Well, sadly, it got left in Mammoth on a trip and I couldn't recover it. Heart broken. I bought my second one from Music Makers just last week and received it a few days ago. Reviewing the download blueprints, has benefits, as well as, the print enables the luthier, to guide his building more accurately. All downloads, are the best possible diagrams, to use, for instrument building and comprehensive completetion.

The reverie 2 harp is a well made instrument. Gorgeous solid wood body. The sounds that vibrate from it are pleasant and peaceful. Comes in a nice carry case, included is a tuning instrument and information about the harp, music sheets to get you started. Children and grown ups in the house enjoy playing it, even just to tinker. Met all my expectations.

I have zero experience with harps, but I've wanted one for a while and since we're currently in the great 2020 pandemic, I figured now was the time! The Ballad harp kit comes securely packaged with extremely detailed and easy to follow instructions. The 30-40 hour estimate on build time is accurate, but between my husband and myself we got it done in just under a week. I even added a mahogany finish to darken the color. The instrument itself plays beautifully. Be aware that tuning it does take a while the first couple of times, but once you get it there it's impressively loud and clear. Box arrived very quickly - great shipping ! It is currently in my garage awaiting clearance of work space so I can put it together. I assume kit quality will be excellent and will respond again after the 'build' when I'm learning to play it.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I gained a lot of knowledge from it which will assist in future harp making projects. I regret not buying it prior to commencing other harps I have made! Excellent book :)

I am not sure what I was expecting from this purchase but I was definitely surprised by its content. It was like opening a time capsule and seeing into what the harp world used to be like before my time. There is even instructions on how to generate programs on early home computers in order to assist with harp making. It wasn't the easiest of things to read from start to finish but I feel as though I benefited from doing so.

It was fun to build my first musical instrument. Other than a couple of my mess ups the build and finish went great and it seems to work great too. The only complaint is the link to build help was not very informative. Also tuning help was not very helpful but there were other videos on YouTube that helped. All in all it was a great kit.

Easy to put together and it was a great learning experience. I will be purchasing another kit.

I don't have any previous experience with hammers, so can't speak to their effectiveness (I'm using them on everything, except a hammered dulcimer). I can say they feel good in the hand and are nicely made.

I finished the Hurdy Gurdy which took about 57 hours. It plays and I am simply thrilled with the final result. However I would caution anyone undertaking this project to take their time, review and measure all the parts before beginning. I would never recommend undertaking this project without a wood shop, plenty of space, wood tools and a savy understanding of stringed instruments. The materials are really impressive. In my case, unfortunately the sides were two different lengths (about 1 inch difference) and I unwittingly followed the initial directions to glue the heel and tail without measuring the length of the sides. This created a challenge to square the heel to the tail. I had to recut and reconstruct the heel. The instructions suggested using tape to position the sides before glueing. I found this suggestion of using strapping tape,.. a complete fantasy. I would suggest making a wooden jig to position the sides, which I did, and square the head and tail and position for glueing. Another area of concern is the complete lack of instructions for the manipulation of the Bridges. These are a little tricky and some clear instruction here would have been helpful. Its simply absent. I ended up consulting a friend for help with this. The lathing of the wheel seemed precarious, however, it ended up working very well. However, although the chisel I used was vey sharp, the wheel ended up with some imperfections in it and the left pits in the surface of the wheel. This was the first of the materials that was not up to snuff. It was time consuming to patch and repair. Finally the key tangents are a great design, after sanding and positioning the keys into place, simply by pushing them down into their position I have broken two. The materials in the stems on the two were not up to snuff. I have decided to remake a half dozen to have available when I play. I am looking forward spending time with this great instrument.

This is a replacement for the original E string I used to string my harp with. It arrived in a very timely fashion and is working just fine

Shipping arrived with an additional $225 custom fees to Canada. The kit is well made. Just to see....within 15 mins, I was able to assemble the sound box with masking tape (that was easy!). But actual assemble and finishing needs time for glue to dry, sanding and varnishing, drying/curing, good to take a few days. I engraved the pillar with designs and the sound board. After staining the wood and finishing it, then I threaded the zither pins to 5/8". This took a lot of time and hurts your hand turning. Only then I assembled the neck to the sound box. Support were good & answers provided to questions (Do not glue neck to box, just simply sit it on the dowel). After neck done, then I strung the strings starting from string #33 in descending order, winding 3-4 times around the tuning pin while ensuring the end string got pinched inbetween tightly The Jolie Harp looks pretty and the sound after tuning for 3-4 days is beautiful. My daughter is enjoying playing the Harp. Occasionally, there's sweet music in the air to the gloomy atmosphere around the world as we all go through pandemic Covid-19. Thanks and take care all!

I received my Reverie Harp a little over a month ago and I find it so relaxing and soothing. I asked my 16-year old grandson to try it but he was “too busy with his computer games”. Then a little later, after hearing me play it, he decided he would like to try it “for a minute.” So, he sat down on the floor at my feet and started playing it -- and kept playing it. Eventually, he looked up at me and said “I didn’t realize I would like playing this so much!” This was really high praise! My 2 and 4 year old great-grandchildren also love it! I have just begun to build this dulcimer and I am very pleased at the clear, precise directions given, and also the videos available on line. I don't anticipate any problems and know I will have a beautiful instrument when done.

This hardware kit had everything I needed to build my hammered dulcimer. I also ordered the build plans, bridge pieces, and a set of double-sided playing hammers. It turned out great! My kit included extra wire length and an extra tuning pin. The folks at Musicmakers were also very responsive to my questions as I worked through the build.

I started making harps when I was 16 years old, back in the early 1980's. At that time, there was very little information available on harp design and construction - I sure could have used this book then! Fortunately, I started with a Musicmaker kit before I graduated to my own designs. Like many other builders, I learned mostly by trial and error. 37 years later, I am now delighted to say that Jerry Brown is still very much in my life - as the author of this wonderful book! What a treasure...I am fascinated by Jerry's very thorough yet extremely practical approach to harp physics - he leaves most of the math out of the art, guiding the reader through the real nuts-and-bolts process of designing and building a nice range of very fine harps, from simple to more complex. The book includes large paper string patterns that immediately take most of the guess-work out of laying out a good working string-plan. He gives us lots of excellent charts which can be compared against any existing harp or harp design - these charts allow you to design an instrument with the perfect distribution of string tensions and lengths - or to troubleshoot an existing harp design. There is so much more...like all sorts of different ways to design joints, soundboards and frame parts. All-in-all, this one book gives you everything you need to know about harp design and building - and it is all very user-friendly! This book is the BIBLE of folk harp making - for the common person! AND - it's currently the only book like it in the world!

This is an awesome instrument. I'm seeing more youtube videos popping up where people are using it, so clearly seems to be catching on. Versitile and it seems it can be used in a lot of different ways....not only for music healers, but those who are interested in unusual and wonderful sounding instruments. I fall somewhere in between. I already have a reverie harp and the 2 instruments go beautifully together. So I am going to have so much fun putting this to use.....hard to not just sit and strum it forever !!!

Purchased the Reverie Harp kit to build for my wife to use in the assisted living facilities that she visits. She was blown away by the gesture but was thrilled when it was completed and tuned. Great kit with everything you need, great instructions and pointers. Better than expected and allowed me to create a beautifully playable instrument.

I put off getting these harp lights fearing I wouldn’t be able to install them myself. They were a piece of cake to install! Took me all of about 20 minutes. Most of that time spent deciding where I wanted to put the control. I purchased some brown gaffer tape (won’t harp surface taped to) and I had extra Velcro that I used inside harp to prevent buzzing. Now that they are installed I love them. I thought I’d only use them in low light conditions. However, I find I use them all the time, even during practice as the harp light lighting is simply wonderful! My only regret is I did not purchase them years ago! So if your hesitating, don’t wait purchase them now!!

Have not yet received my lyre to try some of the songs, but after strumming through the pages; it looks like it is going to be a very helpful tool so I am glad I ordered it.

I have finished the lyre. It is beautiful and sounds wonderful. The parts of of high quality and the instructions are very good. I did not use a router or power tools and it took a bit of time with hand sanding and plane work, but turned out well. They are quick to answer any questions emailed to them and are very helpful. This is my second instrument kit from them. Thus far I have made the reverie harp and the lyre. Both are great sounding and beautiful. A bowed psaltery may be next.

I have a private massage/sound healing practice here in LA. So I use different instruments to re-align brain waves, calm the central nervous system, and balance the energy centers (Chakras) before I do a full body massage (healing). I currently use my Reverie and Angel harps by placing them directly on the body and the various sounds help to calm and re-align the energies. I also use it for hospice or hospital work. The Monochord is a specific sound instrument that would be most beneficial for meditation and breath work. So when I place it on the body, the constant key of C, especially the lower notes, vibrate strongly in the body (even stronger than the harps) and help the individual reach a more deeply meditative state. As your video highlights, they can also be used with other instruments like the Hapi Tank Drum. As an individual, I can sit in the lotus meditative position on the floor, and place the monochord on my knees and strum it as I do breath work to myself.

I loved this project and while it does take a little patience it is not as daunting as I originally imagined. The wood is beautiful, the instructions clear and easy to follow, and the result is a very interesting instrument. Warning.... be careful with the strings I wasn't and broke 3 of them (if you are not familiar with the cost of cello strings... you will be surprised). Anyone looking for a project I give this my highest recommendations.

I have ordered 3 of these kits. They are high quality and I am very pleased with the kits. I highly recommend them and also like the plans, although I modified them by fully enclosing the door harp like a small guitar.

Outstanding kit. The instructions are great, the parts well-organized and well-prepared for assembly. All you need to put it together are basic woodworking skills and the time and patience to do things carefully. Also a general idea of how a banjo works, so that when you go to make the final adjustments you aren’t completely at sea. Reading the instructions more than once is also recommended. The result: a very solid, playable instrument that will outlive you. Great job, Musicmakers!

During my cancer journey my music has been important to me. I like combining my harp with other instruments. I have used my tongue drum and then I found this beautiful insturment. It is so memorizing and creates such calm and peace. I love taking it outside and playing with the sounds of nature. The sound catches in the wind and lingers on. Dear MM Folk: I have been frailing the 5-string banjo for some 40 years, and I am an accomplished player. During that time, I have owned some of the finest banjos made—the latest of which was a highly customized Vega Senator. Because I have no wood working skills, I had my Music Makers kit shipped directly to my brother—a gifted wood worker—and gave him free reign. He returned to me a beautifully crafted instrument worthy of hanging on a wall. Although I had originally intended my MM banjo to be my "beater" instrument; something with which I could travel, and take on motorcycle trips, after I received the completed instrument, a strange thing began to happen. More and more often, I found myself leaving my $2,500 Vega hanging on the wall and selecting instead my MM kit banjo. At first, I *made* myself play the Vega—which, don’t get me wrong, is a very fine instrument—reasoning that it was expensive and should, therefore, be played. But after a time, I realized this was just silly. Instead, I just gave myself permission to play the banjo I love: my kit banjo from MM. Eventually, the Vega went out the door. Now, my MM banjo the only one I own—or want to own. So what is it about this instrument that has taken me so thoroughly? I am not sure, really. It would be easy to lay it off to soggy sentimentality because my brother made it for me. But that doesn’t really cover it. Although I am very appreciative of my brother’s work, ultimately, I am too experienced a player to allow sentimentality to cloud my judgment. No, I am in love because it is, for me, the perfect instrument! Perfect sound, perfect feel, perfect look. I perform in public a fair amount, and I cannot count the number of people who have complimented me on the look and sound of this banjo. I have also had more than one luthier comment on the brilliant simplicity of the neck adjustment and head-tensioning arrangements. Because this is now the only banjo I own, I have customized it to my personal preferences. I had my luthier add a frailing scoop, and I replaced the straight bridge with my standard favorite: a curved Moon bridge. I also had my luthier remove the leather string-pad at the bottom of the banjo and replace it with a second nut made of ebony. This not only makes for a cleaner departure point for the strings, but I love the look! Because there are no brackets to dig into my leg, I needed something to keep the banjo from sliding around on my lap. So I added strips of grey/black, "tread" tape at strategic points which worked great! I think it is highly likely that this banjo will remain my "one-and-only" for the remainder of my playing days. I love this Harp Desk! I bought the kit for my Jolie harp. The kit arrived complete with parts, detailed instructions, and was a snap to put together. You can put your music on your harp, and it is close that you can see it, and makes playing a delight. I would recommend this kit for purchase.

I gave my wife this kit for Christmas. She was able to complete it with only a little help from me in drilling holes and attaching the wheels. She attached it to her Jolie Harp easily and it works fine. This is the second kit she has made, Harp Desk was first. She told me she would recommend these kits.

This is a very nice harp. It can also be easily converted to a "classic wire strung clarsach with brass or bronze strings if you do not want steel that Musicmakers supplies. The conversion is simple: make the sides 1//4" thick and glue a hardwood board on top; place the tuning pegs where the bridge pins would otherwise go. Use the free string analysis spreadsheet that MM provides for the new strings, range G to d.

This was my first ever instrument as a woodworker. If I had any questions of the print or hardware, Musicmaker team answered them promptly. I highly recommend their business. My hardy gurdy landed in a very happy home ready for all kinds of music for many years.

Some people just press the eyelet into the (correctly sized) hole. If the board is not a real hard wood (i.e. it is a/c laminate) they can pull out - so put a tiny dab of superglue on the eyelet shaft.

I received the inlay and I was impressed with the packaging. Music Makers packed this so well that there was no possibility that it would be damaged with normal shipping abuse. I cut the slot for the inlay and it bent easily around the instrument I was building. It held together when I removed the tape that held it while the glue dried. A slight amount of sanding later and it was smooth and beautiful. I would definitely buy this product again.

Perfect for my Magic Fluke ukulele to turn it more lute-like! Nice little piece of work, easily stained.

Used the lights for the first time today after repositioning them from the soundboard (helpful hands didn't read the directions, of course) to underneath the harmonic curve. As you said in the description, they can be moved without leaving residue in the first spot. Since I have a small 17 string harp, I didn't need all the lights. Seemed wasteful to cut some off but had to be done and required only a scissors snip (very easy and safe). The lights are nice and bright. They light up the strings, the player's hands, and the music (mine is on an orchestra stand to my left). The battery pack lasted through our 3 1/2 hour session today, was not in the least in the way, and it did not in any way complicate the playing of the harp. NO vibration; nothing in the way, and the harp packed up in its case with no extra equipment to look after. Your "HarpLights" is a very well designed item. The on/off switch on the battery case is another plus - a quality switch that works well.

As with all Musicmakers' harps, the Cheyenne is carefully designed. I love the long bass strings which give magnificent sustain, and the sound board's response. Being adventurous I decided to change the board to double tapered spruce and also changed some of the string specifications to suit my individual preferences. That is one of the nice things about buying a well thought out kit: if you want to you can pretty much customize it, or just be happy with a great design as is. They cut the sound board and back a little oversized - intentionally - in case these might be damaged in shipping - but they package it so well that is unlikely. But you will have to shave a bit off the edges and top. Overall, a great harp at a great price!

I started building the day it arrived. At the end of first day, build and sanding completed. End of second day finish and pins installed. Third day added strings and tuned. Wrapped in seasonal paper, tagged, ready to be opened on Christmas morning. It is that easy when you read and follow the instructions and have quality parts to work with.

The harp arrived yesterday--and I could not be happier with it!!! For many years, I have been on a search to find a lap harp that was pleasing to my ear. Some have come close, but your harp is in a league all its own. The tone is so warm and resonant and mature, if that makes sense. It's as if I'm playing one of your beautiful floor models with the sound encapsulated in this lap harp. The Sonnet is a work of art, both physically and aurally. It is, by far, the very best lap harp I've ever played. I cannot thank you enough for building such a beautiful instrument and for the fact that I'll be able to enjoy it for years to come. Also, I can guarantee you that I will be talking it up in all the harp circles of which I'm a part. I'm a beginner harpist and need to practice a lot during idle time. This lovely cute little harp is so handy that I can bring it anywhere easily. Although it is small, still create very rich tone. Mine one is nylon, sound like my other harps at home, just a bit different on the string space (smaller than standard harp).

I've now ordered MusicMakers' spring steel for kalimba tines 4 times--because they are the least expensive, most flexible & accommodating place to order that I have found. And their shipping is phenomenal: even when I order on a weekend, I get it a couple days later.

I like all Musicmakers' harps and have decided to upgrade the sound board and strings to concert grade, on this one although it is just fine as it is for many purposes. I just got carried away. The sound board will now be spruce and I changed some of the strings to suit my preferences. The kit arrived on schedule and complete; I have had it now for a week and if I had not decided to mess with it would now be stringing her! I asked for some minor changes in light of my intentions and the folks here were just great.

Beautiful wood and craftsmanship. It came perfectly adjusted with nice plunky, staccato nylon strings... the loudness and tone easily tailored by strategically placing pieces of light foam padding behind the skin, for muted playing in the parlor. I find that the Fred Kelly Freedom picks work well and bring out a balanced frailing style sound, for me. I would prefer playing it without a strap and am searching for a way to keep the beautifully finished but slippery round framework from sliding down out of position. I will experiment with foam padding and a elastic strap. I am very pleased with this Mountain Bsnjo, and I look forward to the many hours of practicing the great variety of clawhammer stye tunes, that interest me. His inlay is excellent to work with. The inlay is very close to uniform in width. Very slight sanding to fit a 1/4 groove (0.005 oversized). The joints are tight and pattern lends itself to corners. Excellent quality throughout. I will be purchasing more and have a examples of its use. Highly recommended.

I built this from a kit a few years back and hoped to again but you no longer have it as such. But it's a good stand and I want another. This method should provide some interesting woodworking challenges I hope I can meet. I may modify this and that now that I have the chance. I'll let you know how it goes!

This was my first floor sized harp and it was so easy and fun to build that it inspired me to design other harps on my own. When beginners ask me about buying a reasonably priced first harp this is often what I recommend. The finished harp is competitively priced or you can just buy the kit for a big savings. The kit is carefully designed and only minimal wood working experience and tools are needed - I put it together in my living room. Since all the critical elements have been done for you it is very easy to customize with different strings if you want a different tone; Musicmakers provides a free string analysis worksheet!..

I bought the plans and hardware kit and everything was there that I needed to build my own with lumber that I purchased myself. As result the dulcimer came out perfectly!

I actually bought a used assembled Mt. Dulcimer. However I have built 2 Kanteles and 3 of the Strumbly kits. I did notice the quality of the wood and the construction of this used one was top notch. In fact although it was used it was in pristine condition. Important factors of course, were that it played smoothly and sounded very bright and melodic. It is a quality and solid instrument. Wonderful.

The wood and parts are really high quality. I feel like my kit was rushed through a little, as the parts weren't really cut to fit with a great deal of precision, but regardless if you have just a little bit of woodworking knowledge it's very easy to glue up in a day. The sanding did turn into a bit more shaping, but it's worth noting that walnut does sand quite easily. A drum sanding bit with a hand drill works very well for the inside curve of the snail to get it shaped down quickly. I opted for a Tried & True Danish oil finish, and I honestly couldn't be happier. I've had it assembled for about two weeks now and I don't think I've gone a day without playing it. A great piece for any folk instrument collection.

I play the lever harp and volunteer playing for hospice. What I like about the Reverie is that I leave my paper training behind and just play. It is freeing and lovely. I have played it for my acupuncture patients and one is hoping to buy one! The bell like tones are lovely. You can gliss and it doesn't sound like a piano. The small size and light weight make it very easy to carry about. Thumbs up!

About 10 years ago I purchased your harp wheels for my Lyon & Healy Folk Harp at the Southeastern Harp Conference. I now have a Grand Harpsicle harp that needed harp wheels, so I purchased this DIY kit. It was VERY easy to assemble. Directions are thorough. Makes it so easy to wheel the harp rather than carry it, and also makes the harp more stable, and less likely to fall or get knocked over. Thank you for yet another quality harp accessory.

the kit is great quality for the price. It does have to be adapted (using different screws) depending on what base/body you're using to construct the item. It would be helpful for construction instructions to indicate which size of keys go where.

Lots of plans included, but purchased exclusively for the mini-concert harp plans. There is a 30 string harp plan and a 36 string harp plan. The string chart for the 30 string harp is typed and easily readable; however, it looks like the string chart for the 36 harp plan was handwritten and it is difficult to make many of the numbers out. That is the harp my husband will be making for our daughter, but he’s not a fan of the string chart.

All parts were there and well packaged. Very good quality wood and hardware. I glued it all together the afternoon it arrived and was playing it at lunchtime the next day. The product is as described, easy to assemble with few tools required. However, I would not have completed mine nearly as quickly if I did not own a bench disk/belt sander, orbital sander, rotary tool, and drill press. I really like this instrument that has a beautiful sound. This is the third music makers kit I have completed and they are consistent in their quality. The instructions were very clear.

I am enthralled with the material in Jeremy's book, "Folkharp Design and Construction." With this book, I am confident that I can design and build my own harp.

I own three of these stands. I use one for my Reverie Harp, one for my Lynda Lyre, and one for a small Anglo Saxon Lyre. They are adjustable so I have one sized down for the smaller lyre. The soft plastic material keeps my instruments from sliding around in the stand and does a good job of keeping the stand from sliding around on smooth surfaces. I like having my harps on display because they are beautiful, and it is nice having them out so that I can easily pick them up and play them whenever I want. I am a hospice volunteer and play my harps for patients. The stand folds up and fits nicely in both my Lynda Lyre case and in my Reverie Harp case, making it easy to take along.

I haven't actually used the kit yet but it is very well packaged with all of the necessary items. I'm building a harp from scratch and look forward to the challenge of installing the hardware and stringing the harp.

The soundboard material was packaged very well and arrived in a timely manner. The plywood did have a light horizontal scratch on one side and a chip out on one corner. Neither of these issues could have occurred in shipping because there was no damage to the package. Both issues were worked around but are the reason for a 4 star rating.

I picked up an old Triplett harp with no levers in fairly good shape, but it had no levers, so I wanted to try to make the instrument a bit more versatile. I also do not have a great attachment to the harp as it is likely in its last decade of life. So I tried out these levers. They are one-size-fits-all, so there are no worries about having to buy specific ones. They were surprisingly simple to install. Now I can play in 3 keys on this sweet little instrument!

This stand is wonderful! Using a guitar strap hurt my neck and shoulder. I did not want to dampen the wonderful sound by gripping it with my legs. I was playing one handed to use the other hand to stabilize it. The stand solves this problem. Now I can play with both hands! I love it!

I just built a Psalmodikon kit, and it’s a nice, friendly kit to put together, and even friendlier to make music with. The instructions are excellent as is typical of Musicmakers. There are some YouTube ideos available also, which won be a great help for new kit builder. The kit can be built with a few simple tools. It helps to have proper fretting pliers, which I do, but they aren’t necessary. Ditto a belt sander. I did fine just using sanding blocks and sand paper to finish the box. The instrument comes with a pre printed transposition stick that works with the strumbly songbook. There is also a nice book of songs for a Psalmodikon offered by Musicmakers. Plenty of songs to play on the finished instrument. This Psalmodikon has a solid spruce top, so it sounds very nice plucjked or bowed. I’m not good with a bow yet, but this is a nice little instrument to torture with bad bowing, to learn to use a bow. I’ve figured out a few tunes on my own on the Psalmodikon a,ready. It has a chromatic scale, and only one string, so it’s always in tune with it’s. It’s a great instrument to get started with music, snd that’s what it was originally intended for. Great first kit to build, too. It’s a typical quality product that Musicmakers is known for.

I love my new Blue Sonnet Harp!! The finish is absolutely beautiful! It is a pleasure to play and has a very resonant sound. The bass is rich and does not disappoint! The levers are high quality and the strings are true to pitch when the levers are engaged. My Sonnet is light weight and so it's easy to transport or travel with. Music Makers were kind enough to install a pickup at my request so I can plug into the sound system at church or an open-mic night--which I'm sure I'll do since this harp sounds so good! I purchased this kit to build for a friend. I found it pretty easy; just time consuming. I liked the "tips" in the instructions. I have built guitars before, but never built a mandolin. It sounds excellent, and stays in tune. I did add some walnut binding on the body and used abalone fret dots on the neck and side of the neck. I am likely to buy another kit for myself.

My daughter purchased this kit but had it sent directly to me for assembly as mothering leaves her little time for building. I had previously built the Music Makers mountain dulcimer which was a great project and resulted in a fine instrument. The Lynda Lyre kit was equally as much fun (easier) and I absolutely fell in love with the the beautiful cherry wood frame pieces. Everything fit together perfectly and the design and soundboard material produce a beautiful tone. The only suggestion I would make is that MM provides a separate template that is precise instead of the one that is printed in the manual and needs some compensation for the printers need to shrink it. It was not a problem for me but it did make for some anxiety. A template (in my humble but arrogant view) needs to be perfect if it is going to be a template. Thank you music makers, I know my daughter is going to be delighted with the lynda lyre.

I’ve built one of these before, and the original has quite a history in ancient Zaragoza, Spain, so since I like lyres, I wanted to build one for myself to play. The kit is of very high quality, and the instructions for building it are very good. I’m still working on mine, and the frame is done, the soundboards are also on it. All I have left to do is sand, sand, sand, and put a finish on it. I should also mention that you don’t need a router to build this kit, as per the instructions. I’ve nowhere to use one, and always build my instruments with hand tools, like the old guys did. I did it entirely by hand, with simple hand tools, no workshop , in other words. I only mention the hand tool build so that someone wanting to build one of these lyres, but lack the router or a works full of power tools can still do it. The kit has black walnut arms, frame and yoke, the yoke is pre-drilled to accept the zither pins, which I liked. I did t have to do it, tho I do know how, snd I confess here that I do have a cordless drill. It’s my only power tool. The soundboard is solid spruce, so you have to be careful with that. But it’s not a problem. It gives the lyre a very nice sound. When finished it’s a beautiful instrument, and you will not be disappointed in the quality. I have built quite a few MusicMakers folk kits over the years, and they are well designed, and supplied with excellent assembly instructions. I should also mention their excellent customer service. I’ve had a few glitches over the years, and they have always made it right, given grea advice, and are just nice people. I’m a longtime fan of MusicMakers.

This easy to understand reference tells you all that you need to know to design and build a successful, lovely sounding harp. It answers questions such as how to determine the string length for a note such that it does not break or sound dead, how to make sure that your neck does not break under the tremendous string tension. It gives you options for soundboards. It explains the different joint types that can be used and much more. It is one of the best investments I have made.

I gave these plans to a wonderful woodworker, to make a harp for one of my students. He's not a luthier, or rather, he wasn't a luthier. The plans are clear and pretty easy to follow, even for the weird angles of the neck and pillar joints with the soundbox, He did make one error, and the finished harp has 27 strings, but that's fine, and not a problem with these plans. (If you're a software engineer, you know about the "fence post" problem.)

[Google Chrome] After that, it told me "failed: no file", and after that it linked me to a Musicmakers web page saying I was "out of downloads." Don't purchase thinking you won't have to go through customer service in order to actually receive it.

Very solid and substantial. Beautiful hammer tone finish. It produces mellow and soothing tones. It’s fun just to play random notes. The mallets fit inside the hollow end and all fit in the gig bag.

Our daughter started with a 26-string Harpsicle last year, and quickly outgrew it. A nice L&H or DS was going to be too expensive. I had just finished a DIY electric guitar kit, so I Googled DIY harp kits to find the Voyageur. Compared to similarly priced harps, the Voyageur's YouTube Sound Sample was an instant favorite with the whole family. I'm no woodworking expert, although I love DIY in general and own a decent amount of tools. I spent close to 50 hours over 9 days (4 full weekends, 5 work-day evenings), due to it being my first time on a project of this degree of detail. I could do it much faster if I were to build another. The instructions were very clear, and the videos were a great help. I had to call in when I made a mistake on trimming the soundboard, and Jacob was very helpful in resolving my concerns. Most hardware parts came with spares (which I thankfully didn't need). However, the package was missing a tuning pin and the rosettes that I had ordered with the carving. They took care of it immediately over the phone, and shipped them out the same day. Excellent customer service! I used 7 coats of MinWax Wipe-on Poly (clear, gloss) for the finish, and it came out beautifully. Both my wife and daughter are pleased with the outcome. We can't wait for the strings to stabilize in tuning! The sound quality is just like the sound sample video. When played forte, the very powerful sound can even be faintly heard across the street, with the windows closed. It's such a huge upgrade from a Harpsicle! Thanks for the great harp kit, and I look forward to building the hammered dulcimer kit next!

I’ve been dreaming for a harp for many years now, and opted for the belle kit because it is affordable and makes a floor harp capable of adding levers which I want. I did so much research on the Belle and though it sounded pretty good in the videos on YouTube, but I had no idea... I received my kit in the mail on Tuesday and worked diligently so that i finished stringing it on Sunday, which was great. I enjoyed the building process thoroughly but I was extremely eager to play it. My real joy with my instrument (who I named Phillip) was while stringing and getting to hear some of the first notes. I was blown away by the full roundness of tone. For $800, I wasn’t expecting crap, but I had no idea that it would sound this beautiful. It also has a very nice sound presence. I’m impressed with its ability to whisper, but also make strong, bold statements. It is quite a lovely harp, and the only reason I see myself getting rid of it in the future is to make way for one with more strings. Thank you so much Musicmakers for giving me the opportunity to make a long-time dream of mine come true for a price I can afford and a sound I couldn’t have imagined! P.S. Careful on the wound strings not to let the nylon winding reach the tuning pin. I broke a string on day one because the winding got too high. (Winding is okay to round the bridge pin, but not the tuning pin. On my next string, I’ll put a cork or wooden spacer on the existing leather anchor at the bottom so that the winding at the top can’t reach the tuning pin, even as the string stretches and settles.

The plan and hardware kit are each fine for me. Mostly I like to deal with pleasant people like at Musicmakers. After all, I do this for the fun/accomplishment/mental journey of it....making various musical instruments. Only wish I had discovered this enjoyment back in my 20's, and had the choice to keep it fun. But as to this hurdy gurdy (which I generally call a better name), it is a bit of an unusual piece to me, in that: it is a slate for which presents opportunity to express some additional art. The plans and the pamphlet make good sense.

I have built two of these harps and ordering a third. I use one at a local care center; one I built for a friend; the third one is for a friend who will use it in a hospital/hospice ministry. I have had only one question in the building of these kits and Cody was very helpful in providing the answer and help I needed. Bless you all for this great ministry tool.

This is an excellent teaching resource for the harp. The author explains concepts clearly, has plenty of pictures for proper technique, and reminds you throughout the book to continually evaluate your technique. The pieces are beautiful yet practical and guide you through progressively harder pieces. She also has helpful tips for practicing. The last half of the book presents the basics of music reading and theory as well. Highly recommend!

My husband and I built the Cheyenne Harp and I am so impressed! The harp itself is beautiful to look at and has a lovely sound. It has a rich base and overall mellow tone with abundant volume. I truley enjoy playing this lovely instrument. I chose the Cheyenne specifically for the large range and overall sound and I am not disappointed! As far as the kit goes, we've never done anything quite like this before. My husband has plenty of experience with engines, less with woodworking. So there were challenges, but the directions were very clear. We also used the videos for the Voyager Kit (nearly indentical process), which was very helpful as well. There are other tips in those videos that aren't necessarily in the directions (but might be obvious for experienced wood workers). It is a testament to the MusicMaker's design and instructions that the finished product so well, both in appearance and sound, despite some of our mistakes in the process! I chose the kit as a way to get more harp for the money, and again, I am not disappointed! I highly recommend both this harp and the kit!

I have an I-Pad Pro, 12.9 which is 9" wide, in it's case. I bought the 9" harp desk, calculating I would lose about 1" of space to the black adjusting knob, which I was fine with, as I'll be using this to go in and out of hospital doorways, smaller areas, etc., I didn't want it to be too wide. But it turns out the area that holds the music is only 8-1/8" wide, so after you subtract the 1" the knob takes up, the desk is only 7-1/8" wide. Something you might want to keep in mind if you use a large tablet. I wish they had been more detailed about the dimensions. I guess I'll use velcro or something to give it more stability. Otherwise a very nice item. I've also purchased their harp dolly in the past, and I like it very much!

They have certainly taken the reviews into account....I received more than enough pin fix to redo an entire german zither, with penty of pintite left over. Using this in combination with violin bow resin solved the problem at a very low cost.

AMAZING sound, full and ringing and bright: it immediately became my favorite instrument, and I traveled with it for 6 months last year (planes, trains, automobiles...) I still can't believe how resonant it is--the luthiers who invented this deserve a lot of credit. I made the wire-strung version from a kit and it was trickier than I expected. You really need a router to trim the (considerable) excess wood from the sound box, as well as a drill press to set the tuning pins properly. The back panel is veneer, unfortunately, so you can't round the edges and it looks kinda ugly. Mine developed 2 vertical hairline cracks in the veneer, and a hairline crack in the soundboard from the bridge down, when it was drying overnight. A year later, though, none of the cracks have enlarged and they don't seem to affect the sound at all, so I'm hoping they're just cosmetic problems. I haven't yet found a good way to hold it. It's noticeably top-heavy because of the solid frame and light soundbox, and the rounded bottom means it's unsteady between my knees, so it's a bit awkward for me. Still, I *love* the wire sound and I'm really grateful to MM for this instrument.

The soundboard blank arrived very quickly and was well-packaged. On first glance it is obvious that this is not standard 1/8" Baltic birch, but something much higher quality, and something much stronger. Standard Baltic birch ply of this dimension has one thick central ply and a much thinner face and inner veneer only. This "aircraft grade" plywood has multiple thin plies throughout, with no voids, no knots, just strong and clear overall. This is what is needed for soundboards!

I am mostly self taught, and never understood how strings are numbered. This page with the sound bite of the middle C note as well as the illustration of the piano and harp strings really helped explain it for me, especially since I am mostly a visual learner. Thanks so much! Now I understand how the strings are numbered. Does this work with any brand of harp or strings? I have a 22 string Harrari Harp that starts and ends on C strings.

This is the third kit I built from Music Makers and I was disappointed in it. The materials and craftsmanship were not up to the level of the other Music Maker kits. The thin sides bent and cracked when clamped and the neck had some dings in it. If you're looking for a "starter" kit, I'd recommend the kantele.

This kit is made of fine materials, very easy to build and yields a lovely haunting sound. You'll have some significant sanding to do and I recommend getting access to a power sander. The wood is beautiful and the rosette is a nice touch to make this a lovely instrument all the way around.

I made two of these mountain dulcimer kits: one for my newlywed husband and one for me. I learned a lot about working with wood and both instruments came out looking and sounding stunning. I'm surprised at the volume and tone both of them carry compared to many professionally bought dulcimers. Attention to detail and thinking ahead about what the instructions mean for you to do is key. I was so excited about the kits turning out so well that I then made a bowed psaltry from blueprints, and I couldn't be more pleased with it, either--fifteen years later!

Worked great for tuning my lyre with zither pins. Would recommend, but be sure you buy the right size.

This kit was easy to build. The results are beautiful looks and wonderful sound. I recommend this kit for anyone that has basic wood working tools and skills.

Great book but not appropriate for lever harp. Too many incidental note changes. Great for piano.

Product is good and applies quite easily. However, tghe banding supplied is 39 inches long and the mandola requires 38 1/2 inches, which leaves little room for error. The banding can be brittle, so when I was unpacking it, a small length broke off. I would suggest that a bit extra be supplied when shipped. I have made do by making a 1 inch piece to complete the banding.

I am very satisfied with my harp wheels for my 36 string concert Oladian harp. I am studying to become a certified clinical musician and will use this harp cart to travel all over the hospital playing for patients at the bedside. I have a 26 string therapy harp which is portable and nice, but it is great to have the option of using my 36 string oladian, which has the wider range and more lush sound. I ordered a size small, and it is working fine. Is a bit long, but that is okay. The straps hold it in place just fine. I might be using the forward strap around the pillar of the harp more often than over the feet, as the straps are a bit stretchy. Overall, very convenient. The brakes work great.

I searched for the right wrench and was hesitant about which was the correct size for my “R” harp. This one fits perfect.

The wood used in this instrument is truly beautiful and the inlay banding really sets it off. Construction was a bit tricky. The tenon on the neck was not long enough to snugly fit into the heel block. I added a shim for something to glue to and put in three screws to hold it. The finished product is really nice to look at but if you really want to play it, you'll want to lower the bridge some.

Just got my mandola kit (took a while to get her(. Everything looks good. Started assembly and will let you know what my result is.

This kit is nicely cut and ready to put together, with easy-to-follow instructions! It does need quite a bit of sanding on the front and back body pieces, though. The neck and sides are great, but the front and back of the body is a little rough. I also discovered a small place on the head of the instrument that is splintered, so that need to be sanded, as well. I’m taking my time before stringing this instrument, and oiling before staining and finishing, as I’d hate for the body to end up splitting from being too dry. Overall, I’d still recommend this kit. I can’t wait to finish it!

Well crafted instrument. I couldn’t be more pleased! I’m having so much fun learning this instrument! Which isn’t hard, at all! Great first instrument for someone who enjoys making music, but knows nothing about it! I’m loving my psalmodikon! No complaints here!

My Kantele delivered on everything promised in the description. Nicely crafted, Solid! Well-packed when shipped. I couldn’t ask for more. I’ve never played one before, so I’m just having a blast learning! I foresee a lot of potential with this instrument.

I had some wonderful hours of enjoyment building the instrument and was happy with the quality of all materials and hardware. I found my communication with Music Makers excellent as all staff members I spoke to (via email) were very helpful, courteous and respectful. I am also very happy with my finished dulcimer which looks and sounds very good.

This kit is beautiful, from the quality of the wood to the easy of putting it together. I am not done yet but have put together two other Music Maker Kit, and understand how they work. For me it's satisfying to build my own instruments. I have been waiting along time to buy this kit and am anxious to finish and be able to hear her lovely music.

The book is very well written and very easy to follow. I'm happy of my choice. The people who work at Musicmakers are also very nice and they did follow my request carefully. The only thing i was surprise to see is that the book looks used, not new as it should be: there are stains (coffee stains?) on the cover and through the first pages...but it's ok.

My son and I recently bought and completed the Mountain Dulcimer kit. Both building and playing it have been a very enjoyable and rewarding experience. The instructions were very clear and well thought out. It does help to read them through ahead of time (we did this repeatedly during the build) so you can anticipate upcoming steps. We ran into a slight discrepancy in that the scroll head lacked the ledge described in the instructions for the nut to rest on, but we were able to compensate by leaving a gap and letting the nut rest directly on the soundboard. We used several coats of Varathane wipe-on polyurethane varnish for a finish on the main body, and that came out well. All in all, a great kit, particular for first-time instrument builders.

These strings work great and sound good.

I ordered two of these to see what they are like as I plan to use them for the next harp guitar that I am building. They arrived promptly here in Australia and were very well packaged. They are well designed and the quality is very good. The lever mechanism has the right amount of resistance so that it is comfortable to adjust from normal to sharp positions and stays firmly in place in both positions. I will be ordering more of these.

2 days ago I received my reverie harp and I'm overwhelmed with the beauty of this instrument. It is masterfully made and the sound is mesmerising. I'm very very happy with this purchase. It took only a few minutes of slowly plucking and strumming to send the intire family including the dogs into a peaceful sleep. This is such a lovely instrument. It is beautifully made and the sound is heavenly. Today my grandson played it and I played along on my harp. We made beautiful music.

I purchased the bag on 2/15/2018, it arrived promptly and I set it aside. Today, Jan 12, 2019 I used it for the first time. It is well made and padded, my dulcimer fits nicely. It has a storage pocket on the front to store the hammers and other accessories but the zipper is missing the metal part or tab that is used to open/close the pocket. There is no way to open the storage pocket. Fortunately my wife is an expert seamstress and will fix it for me. Should you purchase this bag check the zippers immediately.

This kit was just the right amount of work for a first build. I was really very impressed with how it was packed for shipping. Everything arrived in great shape and as described. You can shape the peghead as simply or intricately as you want. A great buy.

The eyelet is fine but make sure your size is the same as this medium eyelet. My harp had a smaller eyelet hole that this would not fit in.

I downloaded the Hammered Dulcimer Plans and then went straight to the local FedEx store to have it printed on their wide-format printer (cost about $10 bucks). That greatly speeded my ability to get started, and I was able to get full sized plans that were not all folded up. Very nice. Dimensions and construction details are depicted on the plans. Of course, being a tinkerer, I couldn't resist altering the plans a bit. I really wanted my pin blocks to show off some beautiful curly maple, so I made the pin blocks a bit taller and opted to cut out an inner shelf to hold the sound board. It's taking shape quickly in my basement! Thanks.

Hey! This hardware kit is exceptionally well thought out. It even includes the correct drill bits for installing tuning pins and hitch pins. The delrin rods are PLENTY long enough to do the job and have extra to make inlays on the dulcimer treble and bass bridges. The package came within days of my order and it was well packaged. Not having built a harp before, and having a harp to repair in my shop, I needed some quality information on how to replace the sound board. The chapter on solid wood or engineered board was wonderful. I had assumed, as the harp is not made of solid wood, that it was a lesser quality instrument. Your chapter gave me the opportunity to change my mind, and look over the instrument with a new set of standards. I'll be building a number of harps in the coming months, so I dove into the rest of the binder with eager curiosity. Wonderful work. Perfect. Again, exactly what I needed. Love my harp lights! We were not able to drill a hole in my harp, because of the bolted neck, but we positioned the light cord close to the neck and ran it thru the 1st opening in the soundboard, you can hardly see the cord and It was an easy alternative to drilling a hole and or holes and not being in the right spot. Thank you for a great product!

Great kit, well worth the cost compared to building from scratch. The body, neck, and fingerboard came nearly finished. Most parts fit accurately, but the one I got required some more complex adjustments- the headstock was too thick for the tuners, and the neck mounting screw hole was off by a few mm. I wish the maker would have left the fretboard longer, but I'm sure they have good reasons for the current design. The building process was really pleasant overall. I used all sorts of hand tools, but especially a rasp, block plane, and card scraper. Perfect way to get your feet wet with instrument building.

I love playing my Strumbly. I have named her Ola Belle! Like your previous reviewer more music for the Strumbly is needed. I do not have an ear for music so transposing traditional music to numeric music is a challenge! She is sound great, is small and easy to play and is a beautiful Instrument!

I wanted to make my wife a special gift but as a recovering stroke victim not to mention never having done wood working it can be a challenge. I found the instructions first rate! The videos are also a big help! The "Snell" was cut very over sized, but nothing that some sanding couldn't fix. Building this kit has been great continued therapy for my hands and it feels so good to build a something special for my wife who is a gifted multi instrumentalist. It restores a sense of pride and accomplishment. Now I am saving a little money because I want to do the Mt Dulcimer kit next!

So far I am happy with the strings. I have only replaced one, the highest E. Since I am left handed I was nervous about using the diagrams about the knots. I dropped a dowel rod into the harp because my first knot was loose. I shook it out and started over. That was yesterday. On the second try it seems to be perfect and looks the same as the original knots on the other strings. I much prefer using dowel rods to pieces of string to hold the knots.

STARTED the old world lyre after i finished the lynda lyre. I used a walnut gel stain and let it dry snd the saned it off and it gave it a distress old look and put on a satin poly wipe on..i even stained the spruce and sanded it off.. the look and sound is amazing
