Fretless Mountain Banjo, nylgut strings (gDGBD)
The origin of most old-time fiddle tunes is simply not known. These melodies have been played by generations of fiddlers going back as far as one can remember, and often even further. Not so with this tune. We know without a doubt who wrote this tune. It was Garry Harrison.
Garry was a well respected fiddler and tune collector who played a vital role in keeping the fiddle traditions of Southern Illinois alive. This tune can be found, along with other Garry Harrison originals, on the album by the same name. The CD is currently out of print but you can listen or download it here.
