Raw Lumber

We have left the front room now and entered "the shop". This is where all of your kits begin. Actually that isn't quite true. Your kits actually start as a bunch of trees standing around in a forest. You may have noticed that we use a lot of cherry and walnut in our kits as well as some maple. The reason for this is that these woods are readily available in this part of the country.

When the raw lumber comes in our first step is to cut and plane the wood down to pieces that we can use. We do our best to use as much of the wood as we can but there is always some waste. Luckily a few of us have fireplaces and the left-over scraps make excellent kindling!!
