Along with the hardwoods we also use a lot of plywood in our kits for pieces like soundboards and backs. Here you see the uncut sheets of plywood waiting to be made into kits. Our plywoods come from a few different sources and have quite a journey before they arrive at Musicmaker's. For example our spruce laminate - we buy this as venner and have it shipped to a place that edge glues the veneer into sheets. From there it is sent to a place that glues three of these sheets together to make our laminate. And finally it is sent to us.
Also notice the jigs hanging from the wall in the upper right of the picture. When we build kits we usually build anywhere from 20-50 kits at a time. Gary, our shop foreman, builds jigs for most parts to insure consitency among parts and to save time. Gary not only builds jigs but dances them as well. He is also a fan of Laurel and Hardy and Christmas figurines that sing and dance. That ugly singing fish plaque was shown around the shop here for a long time.
