Here is a short video that demonstrates how to properly install wire strings on zither pins. I use a Reverie Harpin the video but the techniques are applicable to replacing wire strings on zither pins on a variety of instruments such as Kanteles, Monochords, Bowed Psalteries, Hammered Dulcimers, or any number of one-off zithers.
